Apple on late Thursday seeded the first beta of Safari 15.1 for macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina to developers for testing. Safari 15.1 beta is also included in the eighth beta of macOS Monterey seeded earlier this week.

The release notes for the Safari 15.1 beta are largely recycled from the initial release of Safari 15, but in our own testing, the beta appears to fix an issue where bookmarking a YouTube page would result in the browser crashing. Apple will likely be implementing additional bug fixes by the time Safari 15.1 is released to the public, but an issue with the browser showing old tabs upon being reopened does not appear to be fixed yet.

Safari 15.1 beta can be downloaded from the Apple Developer website on the More Downloads page when logged in. In order to install the beta, developers must be running the latest versions of macOS Big Sur or macOS Catalina, according to Apple.

Safari 15 features redesigned tabs that have a rounder and more defined appearance, faster performance, improved security, and more. The browser will come preinstalled on macOS Monterey when the software update is released later this year, and Apple has also made the browser available for macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina users.

Is it just me, or is the shading of the new-style tab (buttons) counterintuitive. I find that with two tabs open, the lighter background-tab actually feels like it is the one in focus simply because it's clearer, and the darker tab feels like it should be representing the background page ...I say "representing" because of course, as they are now buttons rather than tabs there is no actual visiual connection. It's driving me mad!

Fine Apple UX, they thought we were gonna love it.

has icloud tabs been removed from safari 15? Previously in 14, you could click the tab overview and it would show tabs open on other devices in addition to the current tabs on the mac

Safari 15:

- old tabs reopen
- Tab Groups are not syncing between devices
- stability issues and rare crashing

Experience all of the above on latest Big Sur.

Does if fix the issue of not properly saving web page titles (replacing spaces with hyphens, etc) when saved as ".webarchive"?

I’m running Catalina because my top of the line 2012 Mac mini didn’t make the cut for later macOS upgrades. (I’m still a bit sour about this because it’s certainly capable … processor and memory upgrades for future proofing were a waste of money.)

As small consolation, what I’m hoping to see, however, is that Safari 15 eventually includes an interface to Hide My Email.

Ps Apple ****ed up the iCloud Keychain password interface in macOS Settings. It used to be possible to select the password column and hit Ctrl + A and see and sort one’s passwords (fortunately I was able to use this recently to have an overview of all my passwords as I upgraded them from 15 to 20 character standard. That’s no longer possible given the changes somebody thought was smart to make. I’m very much for Apple harmonizing the hodgepodge of UI’s across the different OS’s but Apple could have brought Safari Keychain in line with iOS but left it with these additional features.)

YES. The tab design is awful. I'm constantly trying to select the wrong tab.

I’m using the custom domain feature with iCloud and iOS, but my mac is older and won’t work with Monterey. Will I still be able to use hide my email using safari?

The first time ever that Doordash didn't work in Safari. I had to use Firefox to place an order.
Apple has really gone downhill

Ah, at least 15.1 beta fixed the issue in 15.0 where pages like https://patents.google.com/patent/US7444334B1/en?oq=7444334 were rendered as white boxes with no text.
I'm seeing this issue too with the tab boxes at the top of the page. Switching tabs makes them all render as completely white or completely black, with no text and only icons showing. The weird thing is that taking a screenshot doesn't show the effect. In the image they show up as normal.

Why does it take so long to fix a relatively simple bug like bookmarking YouTube? If it was Chrome, Edge, etc. it would've been fixed already but, realistically, a silly bug like that would've never been introduced in the first place.
