Kinda over Hanks. Would have been better with Don Johnson… A Man and his Dog and his Robot. Plus if it had a girl that got eaten in the end.

Apple is certainly spending some cash on movies with A list stars. But without having absolute numbers stories like this one are rather meaningless. Finch has 21k ratings on imdb. This is not a large number, certainly not a blockbuster size. By comparison No Time to Die has 155k ratings and Dune has 150k.
That’s not a valid comparison in the slightest! Both DUNE & NO TIME TO DIE were released in September, while FINCH was released only last week, nearly 2 months later…

I enjoyed Finch, but it wasn't amazing. Way better than Foundation though...I got so bored after 4 episodes of Foundation that I just couldn't force myself to keep going.

I'm still in on Foundation. Even though it's diverging from the original books, they seem to want to try to maintain the overall integrity of that universe. It's a huge and lengthy universe, so I'm trying to be forgiving about how they've had to slow play some development this first season. I'm caught up, and I'm a bit more sucked in than I was back around episode 4. So you might not want to give up yet. I've enjoyed the last couple of episodes more than the early ones.

I like Hanks a lot and I'm a sci-fi nerd but this one is 7/10 at best in my book.
Finch, Foundation, Invasion they all drag as hell. Not sure if I like this trend.
The Expanse final season is coming out soon on Prime though so I can't wait for that one.

Foundation gets markedly better starting with the 4th episode. My daughter is sufficiently hooked on it, so much so that she's clamoring for each next episode. She's 10. Quite impressive.

The first three episodes did a great job setting up the world as needed for the story. It all pays off later.

If you're going to use IMDB reviews as a benchmark (not a bad surrogate, IMO), you can't really compare a film that has been out five weeks to one that's just a few days past its opening.
yes, that’s a good point. I thought of that but had nothing more immediate to compare it to. the numbers in a couple of months will be much more meaningful. looking at the numbers for Greyhound (the previous high mark for ATV+ movie according to this article) it has 85k imdb ratings after more than a year out. quite a bit less than Dune and No Time To Die after 1 month. of course this is not unexpected b/c the platform is limited. If Finch exceeds the Greyhound numbers after a few months that will indicate subscriber growth of ATV+.

After watching a movie and a few dramas, there is nothing to do with the Apple TV+. I guess it follows the fate of ping.
Hmmm, I really liked Mythic Quest, Ted Lasso, See, Morning Show, Servant, Physical. I am looking forward to seeing this movie as well as The Shrink Next Door, Invasion, Foundation, and Dr. Brain. There is great content there for documentary, educational, and kid content as well.

I feel like it's like the Trader Joes of groceries. Limited choices for content, but most of it is done well.

Bit of marketing can make the worst movie get a few views.

If you haven’t seen this - don’t. Lol.

It’s a movie about a dog. The future of the planet is to be left to the animals? At least that’s my take on it.

Hard to care about the characters, the story and the action scenes were for the most part predictable and boring.

"Opening weekend" used to mean money made on opening weekend.

Now it means views.

World is changing fast.

If you mean changing after 100 years of cinemas then yes - very fast indeed.

Check out cinema growth in China and you may adjust your view slightly.

Foundation is great, the last episode was really well acted and gripping. People are hating on it because they've either read the books from the 40s and they've changed things or because it's not a Disney basic action series with no depth.

I agree foundation was a bit convoluted and slow at the start, but it has picked up second half of the season with some interesting plot twists.

Yeah.. watched it with my 10 yr old. She enjoyed it sufficiently enough. I did think it was "ok". Could've been much better. Overall, it's good for "family time", tho.

Sums it up. Part of me would have liked a more Andy Weir (The Martian) style attention to technical plausibility (admittedly mainly in the book), but I think it would then have lost a lot of its charm. Overall I’m a fan and will watch again ?

Completely my own opinion: you don't need to rush to see this. Some good parts, just not very well knit together.

Finch is another example of my thoughts on Apple TV. It was pretty good. Not amazing. But good. And that seems to apply to almost all their content. But you know what? Im okay with that! You have to dig through so much trash or old content we've seen on Netflix to find something good, we tend to prefer watching Apple TV shows when we sit down.

I got 3 free months of Apple TV+ trial with my iPhone purchase and I never redeemed it. Didn’t see anything that remotely looked interesting. I guess that’s bad.

Yeah, that’s probably bad for you. I enjoyed the morning show, See, Foundation, Ted Lasso, Problem with John Stewart, and got to watch 2 medium class Tom Hanks movies as well.

Yeah, I think this was a pretty meh movie. I fell asleep after a while and my wife mentioned I didn't see the ending. It wasn't all that interesting, but maybe I'll get the ending for some closure?

Just so many unanswered questions, poor plot devices, and weak story telling that it was hard to get deeply invested. They had a lot of great raw material and just dropped it.

For instance, the robot goes on some scouting mission that ends up with the V1 robot being killed and the V2 robot "Jack" picking up someone to "follow" them for what seems like an eternity in a post apocalyptic world where gas should be rare. They break away from this by making a wild dive off the highway to be unseen and instead of simply killing the lights and going "dark" since the surface was littered with broken and abandoned cars they forced the RV under and overpass and destroy the solar panels?

Why Jack struggled so much with driving in a scenario that should be the easiest task for an advanced AI robot considering the lack of traffic and bland nature of the world.

He loaded a ton of "information" into the robot only to have it appear like a bland trivia bot (or AKA as a worse sounding Siri).

etc.

I watched it not being a big Tom Hanks fan and I didn’t hate it. Now that’s what I call a great endorsement lol

Reminded me of CastAway but just in the Future.
I assume this was made when Covid was shutting everything down so I give them a break.
