Apple today released watchOS 8.1.1, a minor update to the watchOS 8 operating system that came out in September. watchOS 8.1.1 comes three weeks after the launch of watchOS 8.1, an update that added SharePlay Fitness+ group workouts and other features.

‌‌watchOS ‌8.1.1 can be downloaded for free through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to General > Software Update. To install the new software, the Apple Watch needs to have at least 50 percent battery, it needs to be placed on a charger, and it needs to be in range of the ‌‌‌‌iPhone‌‌‌‌. watchOS 8.1.1 is only available for the Apple Watch Series 7.

According to Apple's release notes, the watchOS 8.1.1 update addresses an issue that could cause Apple Watch Series 7 models not to charge as expected for some users. Some Apple Watch Series 7 owners have noticed slow charging speeds for their devices, and this update should fix the bug causing the problem.

How slow is "slow" in the context of this bug? I have been underwhelmed by the charging speed of my watch but wasn't sure if I had the wrong expectations. Maybe it was this bug.

Wait is this really just for the GPS+Cellular Series 7?? Me and many others have been having charging issues on the GPS only model.

I’m still not seeing 8.1.1 on my GPS only series 7. This is so frustrating!

Boy, I hope this update will fix my battery drainage on the AW5. I need to recharge sometimes 3x a day. Also, sometimes my watch becomes very erratic since updating to OS8. Apple screwed it up big time.
Update: Yeah, is not available for my AW. Come on Apple...smh

Finally! I had to reboot my watch almost every time when I wanted to charge it, otherwise it just wouldn't.

Interesting. I have arranged to return my 7 GPS+Cellular for replacement because of unreliable charging but I’ll try this and see if it does the trick. My concern about getting a replacement is that Apple don’t seem to do the Baltic Blue Leather Link strap anymore and I’d be very unhappy having to accept a different one. This might solve everything.

I’ve had no end of issues charging my Apple Watch 7 GPS. It sometimes won’t charge and sometimes just charges so slowly…

I had the similar issues, after few restarts it's working now for last few days. You can give a try.
