I really don’t see what Apple would even use EA for, unless they have suddenly decided to get serious on gaming

And even then they need a lot more for that to not be a colossal waste of money

Heh… Apple and EA.
Even if the purchase go through, Apple’s focus on gaming for Mac would still be 0. At best they port EA games to Max and call it a day.
What does apple even gain from EA?
Exactly, it's as if they bought Blizzard, dead gaming companies milking franchises.

Considering Apple's track record towards the gaming industry, they have absolutely nothing that could revamp a dead studio, other than cash, and which they are cheap as heck to invest with, as seen with their current music, arcade, news, etc services, even hardware like the studio display or most of their software quality lately.

Apple finally getting the right idea about how to bring quality gaming experiences to their M powered Macs and Ipads. Fifa, battlefield, Mass effect, Sims, dead space franchises etc will be great natively (optimised for M chips) on Macs rather than ported. Apple can also fund newer IP’s exclusive to Apple devices.

The Sims being an Apple ip would be huge.
I was thinking same. Sims 2 continues to be at the top of the paid games list on the Mac App Store (UK) and even Phil Schiller said in one of the leaked emails that they could have a whole section of the App Store dedicated to sims.

The fact Sims 2, an almost 20 year old game, is the top seller on the MAS is either an amazing feat or a sad indictment of gaming on the Mac.

Let's see.. if you had to guess, which one would be?

Tip: One of them is just your illusion.

Here is my hot take:
  • Apple saw the sexual harassment scandals associated with other gaming studios like Ubisoft, Activision/Blizz, and Riot, amgonst others, and Apple just said no...we don't need to ruin our rep....it's ok...we are fine as we are...

Here's a crazy thought, they screwed their player base for profit.. over and over and over.

To their defense, they are no the only one clearly, but thank god a good portion of gamers have some dignity.
That's more that can be said about lots of Apple's user.

Microsoft has already declared war on the gaming industry. The consolidation of gaming studios to a handful of large companies is just beginning.
I agree but should this be celebrated? I already have a PS5 and Series X with game pass. I’m not trying to game on a MacBook or my phone. I think Xbox made the push actually to compete with Apple. Own all the IP get a sweetheart deal on apples iOS platform.

This would be great. Toss all of the games on Apple Arcade and remove the DLC/IAP.
EA is the most hated video game company….Why?
IAP/Loot Boxes/cosmetic DLC, full-price roster updates, exclusivity contracts, poor working conditions, and hostile takeovers of competing studios.

I agree it’s not something to celebrate. I’m worried that the direction here is that every developer gets gobbled up and thrown behind 3-5 different subscription services.

To acquire EA just to run it as is (or just make minor improvements) makes no sense, but perhaps Apple wants to quickly hire experienced programmers and developers for their virtual reality operating system (not to mention the sports licensing deals)?

I mean...hardware without software is a death knell...and Apple doesn't have a great track record (or any track record) developing games of their own.

Of all game company acquisitions they could consider, EA is probably the worst.

Maybe they could make it better, but why not go with one that has a better history/reputation and better games?

Then again, if their focus is on mobile games, then go for it. Mobile games are the worst, anyway, so this would be a fitting pairing.

Was this Apple and EA meeting about a possible buy out the result of Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard? Apple not wanting to be left out?
