EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Four universities kick off program to attract, retain minorities in science, technology, engineering and math

 

DATE: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 23, 2006.

EVENT: Four of Michigan's flagship universities, Michigan State University, University of Michigan, Wayne State University, and Western Michigan University will join to kick off their new partnership in the Michigan-LSAMP (Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation) program.  

The MI-LSAMP is a comprehensive initiative designed to substantially increase the number of underrepresented minority students pursuing baccalaureate degrees and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The 5-year, $5 million dollar initiative is underwritten in equal parts by the National Science Foundation and the four Alliance institutions.

University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman, the principal investigator of the MI-LSAMP, and leadership from all four universities will give remarks from 11:15 to 11:45. There will be an hors d'oeuvres reception and an exhibit of student projects following the remarks.

PLACE: University of Michigan Detroit Center, 3663 Woodward Ave., (Orchestra Place) Detroit.
