ST. PETERSBURG, June 28. /TASS/. The Russian Navy plans to build the first advanced aircraft carrier, Russian Navy Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Vice Admiral Biktor Bursuk, said today at the 2017 International Maritime Defense Show.
"Yes, the Navy will build an aircraft carrier, for sure," he said. "The mockup demonstrated by the Krylov State Research Center is just a mockup. There are many of them. Different bureaus are hammering out an image of this ship," the Deputy Commander-in-Chief added.
The Russian Navy earlier reported that the Russian fleet expected to receive the first advanced nuclear-powered aircraft carrier by the end of 2030. According to the Deputy Defense Minister Yury Borisov, the contract to build the aircraft carrier may be signed by the end of 2025.
The Kyrlov State Research Center earlier declared the development of the Project 23000E Shtorm (Storm) supercarrier t with a displacement of up to 100,000 tonnes and capable of carrying a group of 80 to 90 aircraft on board.
