How to Add PDF Header and Footer into a PDF Document

PDF Document Management 9: Add PDF Header, Footer and Bates Number

A PDF header, footer and bates number present consistent information (For example: a date, page numbering, the title of the overall document, or authors name) in the page margins throughout a PDF. A PDF footer appears at the bottom of a page. They can include automatically generated information and formatting.

This function adds PDF header and footer information that is used to present information, such as date, time, page numbers, or the title of the document, in the top or bottom margins of a document.

Note: If you need to add different sets of PDF Header, Footer and Bates Number , you need to open your PDF inside PDFill for different times and use this function each time.

Batch (DOS) Command Support: You can start a batch job in Windows by issuing the execution command directly from the MS-DOS command prompt window without opening the PDFill GUI.

There are options:

Add PDF header and footer for left, center and right alignment.
Add page number and date in various automatic format.
Change the text string's font encode, font name, font style, font size and font color, transparency, and more.
Define the left, right, bottom and top margins from page edge.
Enter the pages that the header or footer is not shown.
Add the page offset number to current page number and the total page count.
<<Bates#6#Offset#100>> defines the bates number with digit 6 and the offset 100.

Here are the steps on how to Add PDF Header, Footer and Bates Number in PDF Pages or Change the Properties for PDF Header, Footer and Bates Number:

Choose Document Menu > Header, Footer and Bates Number

or click Header, Footer and Bates Number Button in the Document Toolbar.

Here is the dialog of Header, Footer and Bates Number's Properties:

Click the button to show Header, Footer and Bates Number onto PDF Page

Click the Reset button to use the default value.

Use the Preview Page option to see different pages of the PDF.

Use the three header text boxes and three footer text boxes, type the text that you want to appear in any of these locations, and then do any of the following:

To add automatic page numbering, select Format first:
<<1>>; <<1 of n>>; <<1/n>>; <<Page 1>>; <<Page 1 of n>>; <<Bates#6#Offset#100>>
Then, click inside one of the header or footer text boxes, and click the Insert Page Number button.
<<Bates#6#Offset#100>> defines the bates number with digit 6 and the offset 100.

To add the date of creation, select Format first:
<<m/d>>; <<m/d/yy>>; <<m/d/yyyy>>; <<mm/dd/yy>>; <<mm/dd/yyyy>>; <<d/m/yy>>; <<d/m/yyyy>>; <<dd/mm/yy>>; <<dd/mm/yyyy>>; <<mm/yy>>
Then, click inside one of the header or footer text boxes, and click the Insert Date button.

Note:
You must put other text outside <<>>.
You can combine text with dates and page numbers.
You can also add several lines of text to an entry.
Text typed in the Left, Center, and Right boxes appears left-aligned, centered, and right-aligned, respectively.

Font Properties: Select your preferences for the encode, name, embed, style, color, size, Underline or Strikethrough.

Margin from Edges: As needed, change the values in the Top, Bottom, Left, and Right options to adjust the margins within the header and footer, using the Preview to evaluate the results.

Pages Not Shown: Enter the pages that the header or footer is not shown. For example: 1, 6, 3-7, even, odd, 5-last.

Page Offset: Add the page offset number to current page number and the total page count.

Transparency: The transparency of the text for the header and footer.

Click the Close button to apply the changes.

Click the Cancel button to ignore the changes.

Batch (DOS) Command Support:
You can start a batch job in Windows by issuing the execution command directly from the MS-DOS command prompt window without opening the PDFill GUI.
(It is only available for the registered user of PDFill PDF Editor)

flagHeadFoot: 0 is Adding Header Only, 1 is Adding Footer only, and 2 is adding both Header and Footer.

addOnFirstPage: If 1, add on First Page; if 0, don't add on First page

leftMargin rightMargin bottomMargin topMargin: Specify the white margin space around the header or footer.

"HeaderFooterString": "Page <<1>> of <<N>>" Where <<1>> means Page Index and <<N>> is the total page number. "Page <<Bates#6#Offset#100>>" defines the bates number with digit 6 and the offset 100.

-align 1: (Optional) the value can 0 (left), 1 (center) or 2 (right). Default is 0.

-pageOffset 10: (Optional) the page offset to add onto the page Index and the total page number. Default is 0.

-fontEncode "Western": (Optional) Font Encode. Default is "Western".

-fontName "Times New Roman": (Optional) Font name. Default is "Times New Roman".

-fontStyle 3: (Optional) Font Styles: 0 (Regular), 1 (Bold), 2 (Italic) and 3 (Bold Italic). Default is 0

-fontSize 12.0: (Optional) Font Size. Default is 12.0

-rgbFontColor "0 0 255": (Optional) font color in Red, Green and Blue Component between 0 to 255. Default is 0 0 255. Note: Put "" on the 3 values and each value (0-255) is separated with space.

-pageNotShown "1,3-6, last": (Optional) The pages not shown.
