The Children's Crusade
In the year 1212 the , nearly a hundred thousand children, boys and girls, average age twelve, marched from Europe in an attempt to reach Jerusalem and there to convert Moslems to Christianity. Many of the children died, some as martyrs. Many sold into prostitution and slavery. Many were never heard of again. This is the story of their ordeal, their crusade.

There are some minor episodes of history that have not received the attention which they seem to merit. Historians have been too much occupied with events of greater importance, to stop and explore these by-ways as they passed them. The same reason led the chroniclers of the times to preserve no more than scanty details concerning them, and consequently these worthies often dismiss with a few words incidents that have more interest than others to which they give many a dreary page.
This has been the case with the transaction to which this volume is devoted. Although pertaining to a sphere so interesting as the child-life of other and remote days, yet it has been almost forgotten. Many are not aware of its occurrence. Some have regarded it as a myth.

বইটা আমার মোটেই ভালো লাগেনি। মোটামুটি বিরক্তিকর ভঙ্গিতে লেখা। বিষয়বস্তুর জন্য একটা অতিরিক্ত তারা।
ক্রুসেডের সময়কাল। ১২১২। ফ্রান্সের স্টিফেন আর জার্মানির নিকোলাস কি এক অলৌকিক আদেশ পেল আর বাচ্চাদের উত্তেজিত করে ফেলল। বাচ্চারা দলে দলে প্যালেসটাইনের দিকে চলে যেতে লাগল পবিত্র ভূমি উদ্ধারে।
হ্যামিলনের বাঁশিওয়ালা গল্পটা কে লিখেছে তা জানা যায় না। গল্পের আড়ালের অনেকগুলো ঘটনার মধ্যে Children's Crusade একটা বলে মনে করা হয়। (সূত্রঃ লাল মৃত্যু)
