I was honestly not expecting very much at all from this movie, considering I'm a 42 year old woman. I do however still indulge in those Teen Mean/Psycho Girls that are on Lifetime every once in a blue moon, so I guess that makes me not technically an adult "Adult" lol!
Anyway... my daughter and I saw the preview for it and we both said if it sucks after 15 minutes we'll just change it! Well.. we never changed it.. In fact we've watched it a few times now!
The acting is pretty damn good for the most part, the music is great, and it very realistic.
What I found absolutely astonishing about this movie.. THE LEAD ACTRESS not only acted in this, but she also wrote the script, wrote the majority of the music, sung her own songs, co-produced the movie with her mom and she DIRECTED this movie too! All of this being her first time ever and she's only 22! After I saw the movie the first time, and then read about what SHE DID.. I was like DAMN! I watched it again in awe..
Everyone needs to see this!

I think this is a movie well worth watching. It supposedly is a modern version of The Crucible, but its really quite different. And the Crucible itself was an allegory for the cruel, judgmental group think that destroyed lives during the McCarthy era. If you are looking for more substance in the ending, in the Crucible the man wrongly accused of witchcraft, John Proctor, is executed. So, if you chase that rabbit into the forest, then you know what happened to Jeremy who was mostly innocent. However, the last scene, and the look between Melissa and Abigail does not suggest that is what happened. So, we are left to figure it out. We do know Melissa’s real abuser from the interview with the policeman. We do know that Jeremy is a mostly decent guy, and very carefully tries to help Abigail with her insecurities and feelings of being unwanted. But he did give in briefly to his fantasies, and it had an enormous effect on a very fragile teen age girl. And, perhaps, we can even cut Melissa a little slack for being such a terrible, jealous, and even mentally vicious brat. But all of these characters are flawed, some much more than others. And would we not expect teen agers, with raging hormones, being constantly surrounded by the suggestion of sex, everybody’s doing it, getting it through movies, TV, and even fashion ads to be flawed. These kids are the same combination of obnoxious, selfish, horny, cliquish, hurtful, and sometimes actually sweet and decent that we were when we were teen agers. And some are more so of any of the above than others. That is what makes this such a good movie. It challenges us to think about interpersonal relationships, following the clique, being judgmental, and assuming things we don’t really know about others. I highly recommend watching it – acting is superb by almost everyone in it. It is complex. It absolutely is not soft porn – nor even very sexy. Sex is talked about, implied, but there is only one scene with Jeremy and his adult girlfriend that shows sex onscreen, and it is pretty mild. I cant give it 5 stars because I reserve those for movies not only with a great storyline and great acting, but great scenery and cinematography. But watch. And think about it. And you can have your own ending – I have mine, but will not share it because I don’t want to spoil yours.

The movie uses a pretty well worn literary device student teacher, taboo sexual tension with quite a bit of mean girl spice. I liked the ending, however I think that the ending story line should have been developed a bit more throughout the movie before jumping right to it. One thing that majorly took away stars from this was that it was sort of flat. The cast did a great job but the filmis pretty much all dark all creepy the entire movie. There is no true build up or crescendo to speak of. It felt like emotional byplays of the movie were cut in editing. It could have stood another half hour of structure throughout. One of the other reviewers commented that there were no good or bad guys. However in my opinion the author stays the line of tried and true who is bad and who is good. Overall it was a good movie with a strong cast but I would save your rental payment until it comes out as a Prime flick.

So I mean the movie wasn't bad at all. The acting I thought was pretty believable. My only issue was some of the plot holes and more "realistic" details of the movie. For example, dress code I feel like, that some of what the girls were wearing wouldn't have made it past a single instructor, or that some of the cheerleaders had black or regular tennis shoes. Also the fact that the instructor drove a student home. Those were just some holes and details to have kept in mind. Besides that, the movie was actually really enjoyable, actors and actresses did just fine, and they actually looked like they were in highschool, which is far more better than some of the movies who are clearly in their older 20's trying to pass as a high schooler.

When considering the ELA standard that asks students to review different modes and media of one text, this movie--Blame--came to my attention as it was supposed to be a modern adaptation of The Crucible. It is that, but it is not something I would show students. After previewing the movie, I returned it the next day. It's soft porn with a very awkward and unrelatable plot and denouement. It was not my cup of tea, nor something that I can support for a positive recommendation.

Wonderful modern day rendering of the Crucible

Quinn Shephard is a phenomenon. She is a stunning writer, director and actress and is very attractive in an understated way. The story has some elements of the famous Arthur Miller play depicting some activities taking place in the late 1600's in New England. Miller wrote it as an allegory of the red menace hoax of the early 1950's in which many people were labeled and unfairly vilified as communists. In this case it is more about sexuality and attraction. Some folks complained that the movie was unfinished. However, you have to listen carefully to an interview that was conducted near the end which tells you the outcome of the story. This was a subtle artistic touch that was understated but effective.

Wieso braucht der deutsche Verleiher diesen unnötigen Zusatz "verbotenes Verlangen"? Das lockt völlig falsche Zielgruppen an, die dann nur enttäuscht sind. Quinn Shepard hat diesen Film gedreht und ist die Hauptdarstellerin
(spielt dabei auch noch eine Jugendliche, wow). Bei so etwas gibt der/die Schauspieler natürlich alles, weil ihnen ihr Film auch "am Herzen liegt". Das merkt man in jeder Szene, und das ist gut so........................
Ansonsten ein solides Thema für ein Schuldrama, und auch ein passendes Ende, ohne (oder vielleicht doch irgendwie)Happy-End. Passt schon.
