CCG And GPCC 2021 Joint Communique : Full Text

GREETINGS

Dearly beloved citizens of Ghana, we bring you warm greetings from the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

PREAMBLE

We, the leaders of CCG and GPCC, held our annual joint business meeting at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana head office on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. We also held our worship and prayer service on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at the Head office of the Christ Apostolic Church International to pray for righteousness, peace and prosperity in our country.

In our joint meeting, we discussed matters of both Church and National interests. We deem it appropriate as Christian Leaders to speak to and bring the following issues to the attention of the Government and people of Ghana.

PROMOTION OF PROPER HUMAN SEXUAL RIGHTS AND GHANAIAN FAMILY VALUES BILL, 2021

We, the leadership of CCG and GPCC are excited at the progress of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021. The two Councils have stated in earlier communiques that as Christians, we uphold the Bible as our Principal guide and consider the LGBTQI+ in all its forms as unacceptable behaviour that our God frowns upon (Romans 1:25-28). Moreover, it is alien to the Ghanaian culture and family value system, and as such, the citizens of this nation cannot accept it.

We therefore encourage Parliament to expedite action on the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021 to help safeguard our cherished family system in Ghana. We encourage all Ghanaians to send their memos to Parliament in support of this bill to protect our nation from the corruption and moral decadence of same sex unions. We appeal to His Excellency the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to sign the bill into law after the due process. Finally, we call on all Ghanaians to pray for God’s grace and intervention for the passage of the bill into law.

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

The leaders of CCG and GPCC have observed with much concern, the non-adherence of some Ghanaians to the COVID-19 protocols. It has even come to our notice that some church leaders have also relaxed the adherence to the protocols in their worship services. We passionately appeal to all Ghanaians, especially pastors, to ensure that members observe all the approved protocols in their premises. Let us all stay safe by wearing our facemasks, observing social distancing, washing our hands regularly under running water with soap and use hand sanitizers frequently.

Our Joint Councils wish to commend government for procuring vaccines for our country. We urge government to do everything possible to get the needed vaccines for the entire population of our country. We also appeal to all Ghanaians to make themselves available for the vaccination whenever government procures vaccines for the nation. Let us remember that the vaccines do not only protect oneself from getting the disease but also protects others by stopping transmission. We, therefore, encourage all Ghanaians to avail themselves for their vaccination and not allow anyone to use conspiracies that have no scientific proofs to prevent them from taking the vaccines.

ROAD ACCIDENTS

In our last joint communique in March 2020, we cautioned the nation about the alarming rate of road accidents in our country. Unfortunately, our search indicates that the situation has not changed much. We commend the Police, the National Road Safety Authority and other stakeholders for the efforts they have made so far to curb the increasing number of road accidents in the country. We admit however that there is more work for us to do as a nation.

The leadership of CCG and GPCC wish to call on government to prioritize the construction of dual carriage roads to curb head on collision of vehicles. We also urge the Ministry of Roads and Highways to erect streetlights on all roads, especially the major highways to aid visibility when driving at night. We appeal to the Police to ensure that road traffic offenders face the full rigors of the law to ensure discipline on our roads. In that regard, the leadership of our two Councils wish to commend the acting IGP, COP Dr. Akuffo-Dampare for the measures he has put in place in a short time to arrest traffic offenders to serve as deterrent to others. We call for the support of Ghanaians for the acting IGP to carry out his work of ensuring discipline on our roads.

EXCESSES AND ABUSES FROM SPIRITUALISTS

We wish to express our deep concern about the activities of spiritualists on our Television, Radio and on the internet. Some of these spiritualists are pastors whilst others call themselves malams and fetish priests.

We have observed that the activities of such spiritualists who promise to make people rich through their TV, radio and other social media platforms have contributed to fueling the ‘get- rich-quick syndrome’ in our country, thus belittling the need for hard work, patience and honesty in our society.

We, the Leaders of CCG and GPCC believe that it is important for the Government and all citizens to appreciate the moral, psychological, social and economic havoc, which these spiritualists are causing our nation. We therefore call on the Regulators of our media space, to clamp down on the activities of fraudulent spiritualists who propagate evils and their ‘get-rich-quick’ activities on our television stations and social media platforms. We call on Ghanaian citizens to appreciate the need for hard work, honesty, Christian values, integrity and the desire for genuine acquisition of wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18).

CONCLUSION

CONCLUSION The Christian Council of Ghana and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council wish to affirm our faith in the Triune God. We urge citizens of Ghana to eschew all forms of negative attitudes. We beseech the Church in Ghana to prioritize righteousness so that God will exalt our nation (Proverbs 14:34).

Our two Councils will continue to pray for our dear nation and continue to speak for the voiceless. In so doing we will be non-partisan and be guided by the principles of the Holy Bible. We wish all Ghanaians well in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
