      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult can't help but be sporadically funny thanks to Leslie Nielsen's dependably solid work, but it's still a steep comedown from the original.

Jeff M This is basically THE NAKED GUN's salute to Hollywood, which is why I find it absolutely irresistible and a truly worthy end to the funniest trilogy in film history. In addition to the climactic Oscar segment which encapsulates the last quarter of the movie, we have nods to everything from THE UNTOUCHABLES to THELMA & LOUISE to THE CRYING GAME along the way. There are admittedly scenes here and there that haven't aged well, including an opening prologue full of violent gun interplay, but the discomfort watching them now is more due to recent events rather than any faults of the filmmaking itself. The Academy Awards part of the film features one priceless moment after another, from a Best Supporting Actress battle featuring Florence Henderson, Mary Lou Retton, Morgan Fairchild and Shannen Doherty to Raquel Welch getting in a fist fight with "Phil Donahue" to Pia Zadora's eerily accurate bad production number ending with her in the orchestra pit. This is nearly as good as the very first movie, and considering it is one of the funniest comedies of all time, that is about the highest praise I can bestow upon it.
