Borrowing Privileges FAQS

Who can borrow books?

       • Current Students  •  Faculty  • Local Alumni • AIA San Diego Members

How many books can I check out at a time?

• 20 items may be checked out at a time
• thesis books are limited to 1 check out at a time
• magazines are limited to 2 check outs at time

I have no connection to NewSchool, can I still use the library?

• Please contact us at 619-684-8783  or send us an email for more information.

How do I get an account?

• When you enroll at NewSchool an account is generated for you. Having trouble accessing library materials? Contact Us

I'm a NewSchool Alum how do I use the library?

• Alumni have full borrowing privileges, provided you can show proof of a San Diego address.
• Your ID Card will not provide access to campus. To visit the library, call NewSchool Security and check in at the Front Desk. Contact Us for more information. 
• Access to digital library resources is archived 6 months after graduation.

Renewing Items:

How do I renew my items?

• Sign In to your Account. > My Account > My Checkouts > Select items to renew > Renew
• Email the Library and ask to renew your items

My items are not renewing, what's wrong?

• Items can be renewed a maximum of three times OR
• Another student has requested the item

Holds:

Someone has the item I need, what do I do?

• You can place a hold on items that are currently checked out:
• Log into the Catalog > Locate the book you want via search > Click on theicon.
• Holds prevent item renewal but do not guarantee items are returned on time
• If you are having a problem, contact your librarian

I can't make it into the library until later, can you save a book for me?

• Yes! Place a hold on an item, no one else can check it out
• Log into the Catalog > Locate the book you want via search > Click on theicon

How will I know my hold is ready?

•  You will receive 2 emails: 
  1. Confirms you placed the hold
  2. Notifies you that the hold item is ready for pick up

Where is my hold located?

• You can pick up your hold from the library desk. Current Hours.
