Mathematics and statistics
Our Maths and Statistics Support Service supports all taught students with maths and statistics.
You can visit us during our drop-in sessions (see below) or request an in-person or online appointment with our friendly advisors.
The service covers a wide range of levels of mathematical and statistical enquiry. For example, we can help if you are:
- preparing for a drug calculations exam in nursing
- writing a mathematical proof
- taking a maths or statistics module
- applying for jobs that require logic or numerical reasoning tests
- doing a dissertation that involves data collection/analysis/presentation.
We will address any gaps in your knowledge by signposting you to useful resources relevant to your course and supporting you in developing learning strategies. We will also discuss specific maths or statistics parts of your courses with you and suggest ways to prepare for your exams. Our main goal is to support you in building your confidence and becoming an independent learner.
Mathematics revision space
Visit Laidlaw Level 1 during the following times to revise in a low sensory input space:
Tuesdays 11am – 4pm.
Our friendly advisors will be available 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm to support you with your revision.
The space will have a low level of lighting and you will be asked to switch off sounds on your electronic equipment. You are welcome to talk in the space and can anticipate other participants might speak as well. You are welcome to use headphones.
You can book a space ahead of time or come along without booking a space.
We are trialing using this space for this purpose, so the space and the opening hours might change - this page will detail any changes. If you have any questions, ideas, or feedback, please let us know in any of the following ways:
- Come to the space and talk to our friendly advisor.
- Email MASS.library@leeds.ac.uk.
- Let us know anonymously on our Padlet.

Embedded teaching
Module leaders can work with a maths or statistics support advisor to provide tailored support to students, embedded within a specific module. Sessions can be planned as part of the curriculum, or arranged if a specific issue arises on the course.
We also welcome requests from students or course reps, as we have previously created successful sessions suggested by students.
