We're so proud of the work that Annie and all our outgoing #WeAreInternational student ambassadors have done as part of the programme over the years! ✨ 👩🎓 🌍 International students are at the heart of everything we do at UKCISA. BDO Edinburgh Audit Trainee | Former UKCISA Student Ambassador 22/23 | MA Economics and Statistics at The University of Edinburgh
Reflecting on my journey as a UKCISA student ambassador during a recent catch-up meeting, my emotions were just prompting me to share some of the beautiful memories as a wrap-up for the two-year tenure. When I was first appointed, I had no idea what this programme was like and to be honest, things like participating in conferences, sitting on panels and engaging with professionals all sounded surreal to me. I am truly grateful for the opportunities that UKCISA has given me, not only did they widen my knowledge on how the sector supports international students, but they also facilitated my personal development. Here are some interesting topics that I have come through at different events: drinking culture in the UK, slangs and accents and breaking the stereotypes. However, my favourite one, which also resonated with me the most, is ‘how genuine international students can be?’(not only when sharing our experience at events but on a daily basis). The conversation made me realise how important a ‘safe space’ is for international students. I consider myself lucky to have found such a space within UKCISA, shoutout to all #WeAreInternational Ambassadors and UKCISA staff, who let me be my true self and it’s been lovely working with you all. Although my tenure has already come to an end, the memories and passion will definitely be long lasting. I still can’t believe it is over and I am missing those days, but here I am sending my best wishes to the current cohort and I am confident that you all will be amazing! ✨
