So, we've had these in our household for almost two months ago. I purchased them to work on some wrist mobility exercises and fine motor type tasks with our five year old son, who has an assortment of specialized needs and developmental delays. The rating is based on my opinion of them, and not his, because he gives me some pretty wicked stink eye whenever I pull them out. And his actions express a fair bit of displeasure about them. Anything to do with coloring, painting...they are my little man's kryptonite.

So I have to tell you straight up I've not been using traditional paints with these. We've been using them in the bathtub using non-toxic soap paints that I purchased at the store, because I thought this would be the most successful way to introduce these activities and get some sort of buy in from him. Plus it comes with the added advantage of allowing him to paint in many different planes and be easily cleanable at the same time. So they're exposed to a fair bit of moisture, but they are not exposed to paints that would stick to the bristles and not wash off completely or well. The bathtub setting has other advantages, I can try to get him to paint the soap on himself, and I can encourage washing skills as he's trying to rub it off when I put it on him. And the bristles are soft enough to be ticklish and not scratchy, so today at least he was giggling when I took a turn painting him down.

What I've observed so far is that on our brushes, we haven't had an bristles falling out, which I like. I've had some other brands of toddler brushes that shed like a St. Bernard in summertime, and so I really appreciate that these aren't doing that. The plastic handles I think is part of what allows these to be so durable in the more humid environment of the bathroom, and I like that these won't have peeling paint from the moisture that he could chew off. I think the handles are probably big enough for your average toddler, and while they are not his favorite, he can manage a grip on them.

So for us, these are holding up and working great, and while he doesn't really love them, I do ;)
