PAPER PUBLISHED: Journal of Information Technology Education: Innovations in Practice [April 2024] TITLE: Progressive Reduction of Captions in Language Learning   DOI: https://lnkd.in/eSveJ_3J   AUTHORS: Mónica S. Cárdenas-Claros, Daniela Ramírez-Orellana   AIM/PURPOSE:  This exploratory qualitative case study examines the perceptions of high-school learners of English regarding a pedagogical intervention involving progressive reduction of captions (full, sentence-level, keyword captions, and no-captions) in enhancing language learning.   FINDINGS:  Our findings show that learners not only appreciate the varied captioning approaches for their role in supporting text comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, pronunciation, and on-task focus but also for facilitating the integration of new linguistic knowledge with existing background knowledge. Crucially, our study uncovers a positive reception towards the gradual shift from fully captioned to uncaptioned materials, highlighting a stepwise reduction of caption dependence as instrumental in boosting learners’ confidence and sense of achievement in mastering L2 listening skills.   #InformingScienceInstitute,#CaptionReliance

  • PAPER PUBLISHED: Journal of Information Technology Education: Innovations in Practice [March 2024]   TITLE: AI Chatbot Adoption in Academia: Task Fit, Usefulness and Collegial Ties   DOI: https://lnkd.in/eGfnndB4   AUTHORS: Vishal Soodan, Avinash Rana, Anurag Jain, Deeksha Sharma   AIM/PURPOSE:  This mixed-methods study aims to examine factors influencing academicians’ intentions to continue using AI-based chatbots by integrating the Task-Technology Fit (TTF) model and social network characteristics.   FINDINGS:  Task and technology characteristics positively affected academics’ intentions to continue AI chatbot usage. Among network factors, density showed the strongest effect on TTF and perceived usefulness, while homophily and connectedness had partial effects. The study provides insights into designing appropriate AI tools for the academic context.   #InformingScienceInstitute,#AIchatBots

  • PAPER PUBLISHED: Interdisciplinary Journal of Information, Knowledge, and Management [March 2024]   TITLE: Continuous Use of Mobile Banking Applications: The Role of Process Virtualizability, Anthropomorphism and Virtual Process Failure Risk   DOI: https://lnkd.in/eQx5D9GM   AUTHORS: Ayman Abdulhadi Alarabiat, Mohammad AbdeKareem Al Hadidi   AIM/PURPOSE: The research aims to investigate the factors that influence the continuous use of mobile banking applications to complete banking monetary transactions.   FINDINGS: The results indicate that process virtualizable and anthropomorphism have a strong positive impact on bank customers’ decisions to continue using mobile banking applications to complete banking monetary transactions. Meanwhile, the negative impact of virtualization process failure risk on continuous use has been discovered. The found factors explain 67.5% of the variance in continuous use.   #InformingScienceInstitute,#MobileBanking

  • PAPER PUBLISHED: Interdisciplinary Journal of Information, Knowledge, and Management [March 2024]   TITLE: Continued Usage Intention of Mobile Learning (M-Learning) in Iraqi Universities Under an Unstable Environment, Integrating the ECM and UTAUT2 Models   DOI: https://lnkd.in/eizqyi-m AUTHORS: Ahmed Ghazi Hameed Al-Rikabi, Putra Bin Sumari, Hussain A. Younis   AIM/PURPOSE: This study examines the adoption and continued use of m-learning in Iraqi universities amidst an unstable environment by extending the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) and Expectation-Confirmation Model (ECM) models. The primary goal is to address the specific challenges and opportunities in Iraq’s higher education institutions (HEIs) due to geopolitical instability and understand their impact on student acceptance, satisfaction, and continued m-learning usage.   FINDINGS: The study’s findings may inform strategies to enhance the effectiveness of m-learning initiatives in Iraqi HEIs and offer insights into how education can be supported in regions characterized by instability.   #InformingScienceInstitute,#MobileLearning

  • PAPER PUBLISHED: Interdisciplinary Journal of Information, Knowledge, and Management [March 2024]   TITLE: Using Social Media Applications for Accessing Health-related Information: Evidence from Jordan   DOI: https://lnkd.in/e6JU7u6U   AUTHOR: Basil Alzougool   AIM/PURPOSE: This study examined the use of Social Media Applications (SMAs) for accessing health-related information within a heterogeneous population in Jordan. The objective of this study was therefore threefold: (i) to investigate the usage of SMAs, including WhatsApp, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook, for accessing health-related information; (ii) to examine potential variations in the use of SMAs based on demographic and behavioral characteristics; and (iii) to identify the factors that can predict the use of SMAs.   FINDINGS:  The findings indicated that individuals often utilized YouTube as a platform to acquire health-related information, whereas their usage of Facebook for this purpose was less frequent. Participants rarely utilized Instagram and WhatsApp to obtain health information, while Twitter and Snapchat were very seldom used for this purpose. The variable of sex demonstrated a notable positive correlation with the utilization of YouTube and Twitter for the purpose of finding health-related information. Conversely, the variable of nationality exhibited a substantial positive correlation with the utilization of Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Consulting medical professionals regarding information obtained from the Internet was a strong indicator of using Instagram to search for health-related information.   #InformingScienceInstitute,#SocialMediaHealth
