The Virgin Way: How to Listen, Learn, Laugh, and Lead Audible Audiobook – Abridged

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 1,007 ratings

In September 2012, a YouGov poll conducted in Britain found that the person British workers would most like as their manager was Sir Richard Branson.

With over 40 years in business, Richard Branson is an inspiring pioneer of humanitarian projects and an iconic business leader. In The Virgin Way: How to Listen, Learn, Laugh and Lead, Richard shares and distils his secrets of leadership and success. Featuring anecdotes from his own business dealings, as well as his observations of many others who have inspired him - from politicians, business leaders, explorers, scientists, and philanthropists - Richard reflects on the qualities he feels are essential for success in today’s world.

This is not a conventional audiobook on leadership. There are no rules - but rather the secrets of leadership that he has learned along the way from his days at Virgin Records, to his recent work with The Elders. Whether you’re at the beginning of your career, or head of a Fortune 500 company - this is your guide to being your own CEO (Chief Enabling Officer) and becoming a true leader - not just a boss.

Recorded on location at Necker Island.

Great insight into an alternative approach to business. A brand built on the appreciation of its work force. I read a review on here that said it was very "self promoting" of the Virgin Brand, nonsense!! They asked a guy (Branson) to write a book about his experiences and he offered up real life scenarios through his eyes, which obviously means referencing Virgin brands.
Very enjoyable, and a refreshing thought that you can succeed without succumbing to the corporate mold.

I have always admired Richard Branson from a distance and what I read/heard about in the news. He's always risky yet calculating enough to be successful. Now, with this book, I can see him and his beliefs from a much more personal perspective including stories of his family and childhood. Note, though, that you won't get into in depth "how-to's" and this is more general leadership philosophy. If you're ok with that, then you won't be disappointed by this book even in the already-crowded business leadership book field. This is posted only a week or two after the Virgin Galactic test flight crash that took the life of one test pilot, and Richard's (don't call him anything more formal!) response has certainly fit with his character you read about here. While his editor let slip some misspellings like "colour" and "favourite" instead of "color" and "favorite", the rest of the book is top notch! (and yes, that was said tongue-in-cheek for our friends across the pond) =)

Sir Richard Branson is a proven leader. His book, The Virgin Way, reveals his philosophy of how to treat employees, satisfying the client, and building a future. This book is clear, concise, readable. If you are in a leadership position, this is required reading. If you are an employee, this book outlines what you should be looking for in your leadership.

Interesting read but not really a book on leadership. Mostly a bunch of anecdotal stories that were entertaining to read but not what I would consider a must read book on leadership.

This is the first book of his that I've read. It read like a "hey assistant of mine, take down some thoughts of mine" kind of approach to writing. I'll skip any further books from him.

Richard has been successful at documenting the need to be real, have an honest character with humility, and show that it's not all about letters behind your name nor being born with a silver spoon. Have fun and Just Do It!

One of the best book I read recently! A truly amazing jounrey into the world of "complicated things explained in simple and vivid manner". The book is filled with interesting facts and a lot of useful tips and thoughts as to how a really human-friendly business should function. No "profit at any cost" approach. Just do your stuff well, do your best to help others while remaining your true self and that will definitely be rewarded! Highly recommend!

Nice book that teaches you to focus on what you like and never be afraid to tackle the challenges that come along the way. Some of the lessons may struggle in these tech age with stiff competition and new ideas everyday and very large money-ags ready to snuff life out of start ups - except you're in silicon valley. But i like his courage.
