Keopuolani Sand Dunes

Keoupuolani Sand Dunes are situated in the center of Keopuolani Regional Park, Kahului, Maui. Part of the "sand hills of Wailuku", these dunes are one of the best remnants of a large lithified (consolidated) sand dune system that used to stretch from Waihee to Waikapu.   Along with being a last of its kind geological feature, these dunes harbor rare native Hawaiian plants, are in an area hisorically known for a diverse native insect fauna, and may hold fossil evidence of extinct Hawaiian birds.   Click below to learn more.
