4. THE BRIDGE

Before entering the palace we will provide explanations about the stone bridge, which was built at the end of the 16th century.

  • Previously, there was a wooden bridge, just a few metres away from the stone bridge. The current stone bridge was restored in 2006.
  • During the restoration work, when the asphalt was removed, the original stone slabs appeared. These are the slabs that we can see today. They are, therefore, the same as those trodden by oxen and pilgrims centuries ago. It is worth highlighting that this is the only bridge of this kind that has been preserved in the Oria valley.
  • In addition, thanks to the meticulous work of the Aranzadi society, each stone is in its original place. The missing pieces were brought from the parish of San Martín de Ataun.
