No Lasse Viren Race for 2013.

I regretfully have decided not to host the event this year.

After looking at increasing costs and how much work/stress is involved I decided not to hold it. Again if anyone would like to take it on would love to see it continue so please contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  . Still one of my favorite places to run.

Race Instructions

Thank You for registering for the 35th annual Lasse Viren 20K Trail Run taking place this Sunday, October 30th. We are less than 24 hours away from the start of tomorrows event. Please read through the info below to help make tomorrows event as smooth as possible.

We still have plenty of open spots if your friends are interested in running. They can sign up online through Friday, at Tri Running on Saturday from 2 - 4, or at the race on Sunday morning starting at 7:30am.

It is going to be warm tomorrow. Please carry a bottle of water with you. This is not mandated but recommended. We will have aid stations with water at miles 2.5, 5, 7, and 9.5. The aid station at mile 5 will also have GU energy gel.

The food/hang out area is in the actual campground close to the trailhead at campsite #15 and 17.

Make sure your bib # is visible on the front of your body when you cross the finish line.

Please make yourself familiar with the COURSE(The start is about 1/2 mile in front of the finish line. Not sure why we dont just make this a half marathon? :) )

If you would like to pick your race shirt and number up early you can do so today Saturday, October 27th between 2 and 4pm at Tri Running located at 2233 Ventura Blvd. in Camarillo. If you do this all you have to do is show up at the starting line on Sunday.

Staging Area / Check-In
Our staging area is at campsite 15 and 17, which is in a really nice setting close to the trailhead. Please see image at bottom of this email to see where we are talking about.

Parking
***Arrive early on race morning because parking is limited and you may have to park relatively far away and walk. Also please be aware the actual starting line is about 1/2 mile from the trailhead/registration area. The campgrounds are full so it is going to be more crowded than normal. You may have to park 1/2 mile away from check-in and jog in. You can park on PCH where marked (most people park between La Jolla Canyon and Sycamore Canyon by the big sand hills.) Limited State Beach Parking is $12.00. Free on the Coast Highway ONLY WHERE MARKED. Be Early. May have to walk ½ mile to the check-in area and another half mile to the actual start line, which is 1/2 mile from the trailhead.

Course
I mapped out a rough outline of the course HERE. Play around with the settings to get a better idea of where the race takes place. The race starts about 1/2 mile up from the initial marker you see (which is the finish.) The starting marker is just before the 12-mile marker (make sure mile markers are turned on.) Also make sure you look at the map in satellite view. This site is really fun once you get familiar with it. Use it to measure your training runs!

Where Is The Race?

Thanks to the following sponsors for making this event even cooler!!!

Aloha Steakhouse

Aloha Steakhouse have locations in Ventura and Camarillo. They generously provide delicious food for runners after the event, which is always a huge hit. One of their owners Jim Avrea is a great runner and triathlete and won his age group on his first ironman ever and qualified for the world championships in Kona.

Salomon Trail Shoes

Salomon trail shoes are comfortable and extremely durable. They have kindly donated a pair for the overall male and female winners as well as the overall masters male and female winners. Salomon trail shoes will be available for demo at the event. Make sure to say hi and thanks to Bruce from Salomon who will be at the event.

DryMax Running Socks

Drymax socks are the best moisture management socks I have ever used. And on top of that they are very durable. Drymax has donated a pair of socks to all age group winners.
