Say what you want about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s cover of Vogue, but the April 2014 issue is reportedly already one of the magazine’s best-selling issues.

According to reports, the controversial cover is on track to sell 300,000 to 400,000 copies, putting it neck-to-neck with top-selling cover stars Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and First Lady Michelle Obama. The New York Post’s Page Six reports the “Flawless” singer’s March 2013 cover sold 355,397 copies, and the following month Mrs. Obama pulled in just under 300,000, including digital replicas.

Following backlash from readers and celebs like Naomi Campbell and Sarah Michelle Gellar, editor-in-chief Anna Wintour defended her decision to put the reality star and rapper on the front page in her editor’s note. “Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it,” Wintour wrote. “I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?)”

“As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue’s cover. He did nothing of the sort,” she added. “The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true.”

According to editor-at-large Hamish Bowles, the fashion bible’s bestseller was the 100th anniversary edition in 1992, featuring Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Karen Mulder, Elaine Irwin, Niki Taylor, Yasmeen Ghauri, Claudia Schiffer and Tatjana Patitz.

An exact sale number for the Kimye issue issue has yet to be released. A Vogue rep said, “[We] never comment on sales figures” so only time shall tell. It looks like the haters can continue hate and critics can continue to criticize because numbers don’t lie! #WorldsMostTalkedAboutCouple, indeed.
