Land is essential for life on Earth. Farmlands, forests, grasslands, savannahs, peatlands, and mountains all provide the resources and services that support humanity. However, ecosystems are facing significant threats. If issues like land degradation aren't addressed, global food production could drop by 12%, leading to a 30% increase in food prices by 2040. Ahead of June’s #WorldEnvironmentDay, use this practical guide for ideas on how to take #GenerationRestoration action to restore land, stop desertification, and build resilience against drought. https://lnkd.in/eY_hTtDM

Who's behind a third of the world’s food production? Bees! 🐝 They’re not just honey makers; they're key for pollinating crops. Yet, they face threats from pesticides to pollution. This #WorldBeeDay, see why they are vital #ForPeopleForPlanet: https://lnkd.in/dyWSJaNX

The people living on small islands, and their governments, are impacted by biodiversity loss, climate disasters, and pollution resulting in disproportionate exposure to economic, social, and environmental shocks. Due to their location and size, Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are particularly vulnerable to climate change resulting in sea level rise, coastal erosion, land degradation, desertification, water scarcity, and extreme weather. By harnessing the power of nature-based solutions, such as reforestation, and conserving marine and coastal ecosystems, SIDS are enhancing their ecosystem resilience, building sustainable ocean-based economies, and minimizing pollution and waste. Ahead of this month’s #SIDS4 conference, here is how UNEP helps: https://lnkd.in/dDvRXxbj #GenerationRestoration

Water is both severely and disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution, chemicals and waste. Data collection and data sharing are essential to global efforts in protecting, restoring, and managing water ecosystems, understanding the water continuum, and developing critical source to sea approaches. While more countries are reporting on #GlobalGoals 6 indicators, like water quality, there is still a dearth in data availability from low-income countries. And, where good data is available, there is a deteriorating water quality status trend observed. To improve the health status of water ecosystems globally, at #WorldWaterForum, UNEP is calling for scaling up joint efforts in national reporting and at a local capacity through citizen science. UNEP delivers data-driven insights for informed water quality policies and supports countries in assessing and improving water quality – find out more : https://lnkd.in/dX9MbVCF
