PEOPLE THERE TELLING LOCAL MEDIA THAT PEOPLE WERE TRAPPED IN HALF A DOZEN HOMES THROUGHOUT AMORY. YOU CAN SEE THE DESTRUCTION HERE... THIS GAS STATION WAS HIT HARD BY SEVERE WEATHER. THEY SAY CREWS WORKED THEIR WAY THROUGH DEBRIS... DOWNED TREES AND POSSIBLE GAS LEAKS. A COMMAND CENTER WAS SET UP AT A PIGGLY WIGGLY PARKING LOT. CREWS ARE CONTINUING SEARCH AND RESCUE EFFORTS. THE DAMAGE CONTINUES.... WAREHOUSES... SHEDS AND BUSINESSES ALL FALLING VICTIM. NEIGHBORHOODS CUTOFF FROM THE REST OF THE TOWN. MONTGOMERY COUNTY ALSO HIT HARD... A devastating tornado struck Mississippi Friday night.As of Saturday afternoon, 25 people have been confirmed dead and several others were injured because of the tornado, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. Sharkey County County Coroner Angelia Eason confirmed at 13 people were killed in Rolling Fork. Six bodies were recovered from a mobile home park. Eason said a husband and wife were found dead in their home after winds sent a neighbor’s 18 wheeler slamming into the house.Eason said the whole town of Rolling Fork is practically gone.Search and rescue crews were dispatched to Rolling Fork, along with ambulances in response to the tornado, according to Gov. Tate Reeves. Emergency shelters are open and crews from all over have come to help."Complete and utter devastation. Just houses, roofs ripped off of houses, walls took down from houses," said Rolling Fork resident Edgar O'Neil. "I've seen several areas where parts of the concrete, the asphalt had been jacked up from the ground. I mean, complete devastation."The tornado, which spun up near Rolling Fork around 8 p.m., was at least a mile wide and traveled for more than 170 miles. MEMA said there is also significant damage in Amory along Highways 6 and 25. There are numerous power lines and trees down making it difficult for rescue crews to maneuver. There was a good bit of tornado damage east of Winona, mainly along Highway 407. It will take days to determine the exact length and force of the tornado, 16 WAPT Chief Meteorologist David Hartman said. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is coordinating the response.
