Urban Dynamics Hardcover – January 1, 1969

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 4 ratings

In this controversial book, Jay Forrester presents a computer model describing the major internal forces controlling the balance of population, housing, and industry within an urban area. He then simulates the life cycle of a city and predicts the impact of proposed remedies on the system. Startling in its conclusions, this book became the basis of a major research effort that has influenced many government urban-policy decisions.

For an Urban Planning enthusiast this book is most titillating. The author, Jay Forrester, is the "father" of modern Urban Economics. His foresight into the subtle interactions of the City Machine allow cities and countries who wish to improve their operations the mechanisms to do so. Cities are living entities that are born, grow, obtain middle age plateaus and start to die. The solution to salvaging a sick city can ascertain using the principles discussed in this book.
