ABOUT

EMPOWERING LESBIAN SPACES

In the 1980, there were roughly 200 Lesbian Bars in the United States. Today, there are fewer than 30. As these bars disappear, filmmakers Erica Rose and Elina Street established The Lesbian Bar Project to celebrate, support, and amplify the remaining Lesbian bars. The Lesbian Bar Project believes what makes a bar uniquely Lesbian is its prioritization of creating space for people of marginalized genders including women (regardless if they are cis or trans), non-binary folks, and trans men. As these spaces aim to be inclusive of all individuals across the diverse LGBTQIA+ community, the label Lesbian belongs to all people who feel that it empowers them.

TEAMING UP TO TELL OUR STORIES

For the third consecutive year, The Lesbian Bar Project and Jägermeister have teamed up to highlight the critical need to support the LGBTQIA+ community and spaces. In 2022 Jägermeister and the Roku Brand Studio collaborated to create a new limited streaming series, "The Lesbian Bar Project.” Created and directed by Erica Rose and Elina Street, Executive Produced Lea DeLaria along with The Katz Company, the series spotlights the human stories behind Lesbian bars and the communities that they serve across the United States. Each episode of “The Lesbian Bar Project” series will tell the lively and powerful stories of different Lesbian bar owners and patrons in Houston, Phoenix, and New York. The three-episode docuseries is slated to launch October 11th, 2022 on The Roku Channel.
