17 actors you (maybe) didn't know were from Oregon

Oregon's got some acting talent spread across the state. For this list, as for the Portland actors list earlier this week, I restricted it to living actors who were born here, regardless of where they grew up. That excludes, for instance, Lindsay Wagner (born in Los Angeles, graduated from David Douglas High School), and Gregory Harrison (born in California, lived in Gold Beach and Eugene). That's another list, maybe for another day.

Eric Olsen was born May 31, 1977, in Eugene and grew up in Iowa. He is best known for playing Marty Deeks on "NCIS: Los Angeles."

Ty Burrell was born Aug. 22, 1967, in Grants Pass and graduated from Hidden Valley High School and Southern Oregon University. He has won an Emmy and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role as Phil Dunphy on "Modern Family." His movie credits include "Black Hawk Down" and "The Incredible Hulk."

Bridgette Wilson-Sampras was born Sept. 25, 1973, in Gold Beach and was Miss Teen USA in 1990. Her film roles include "Billy Madison," "Mortal Kombat," and "The Wedding Planner." She is married to tennis champion Pete Sampras.

Kate Nauta was born April 29, 1982, in Salem and graduated from Woodburn High School in 2000. She is a model and actor whose credits include "Transporter 2" and "Avalanche Sharks."

Justin Kirk was born May 28, 1969, in Salem and grew up in Union, Wash. He is best known for playing Andy Botwin on "Weeds" and had a recurring role on "Modern Family."

Brenda Strong was born March 25, 1960, in Brightwood and graduated from Sandy High School in 1978. She played Mary Alice Young on "Desperate Housewives" and has numerous TV and screen credits, including "Starship Troopers" and "Red Dragon."

David Anders was born March 11, 1981, in Grants Pass and graduated from Grants Pass High School. His credits include "24," "Heroes," "Necessary Roughness" and "The Vampire Diaries."

Lisa Rinna was born July 11, 1963, in Medford and graduated from Medford High School in 1981. She has been a regular on "Days of Our Lives" and "Melrose Place" and is a TV personality.

Maria Thayer was born Oct. 30, 1975, in Boring and grew up in Minnesota. She was in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "State of Play," and "Eagleheart."

Dan Gauthier was born Dec. 2, 1963, in Prineville. His long career includes a recurring role on "One Life to Live."

Austin O'Brien was born May 11, 1981, in Eugene. He starred in "Last Action Hero" and "Apollo 13" and was a regular on "Promised Land."

Jason James Richter was born Jan. 29, 1980, in Medford and grew up in Hawaii and Southern California. He is best known for playing Jesse in the "Free Willy" movies.

Brenda Bakke was born May 15, 1963, in Klamath Falls and graduated from Sunset High School in 1981. She appeared in "Hot Shots! Part Deux," "L.A. Confidential," and numerous TV shows.

Howard Hesseman was born Feb. 27, 1940, in Lebanon and graduated from Silverton High School in 1958. He attended the University of Oregon for two years but left to pursue an acting career. He starred as Dr. Johnny Fever in "WKRP in Cincinnati" and as Charlie Moore on "Head of the Class."

Ellary Porterfield was born June 5, 1989, in Bend and graduated from Summit High School. She appeared in "The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio," "Sugar," and "Video Game High School."

Craig Wasson was born March 15, 1954, in Eugene. He appeared in "Body Double," "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3" and "One Life to Live."

Elizabeth Hoffman was born Feb. 8, 1927, in Corvallis. She played the mother on "Sisters" and appeared in "Dante's Peak," "The River Wild" and many other movies.
