Visa terminates global Rugby World Cup sponsorship
LONDON - Visa has put an end to its global sponsorship of the Rugby World Cup (RWC) to concentrate its efforts on the FIFA World Cup and Olympic Games.
The financial services brand has been an official global partner of the RWC for 12 years, spanning four tournaments - in South Africa in 1995, England in 1999, Australia in 2003 and last year's event in France.
Visa vice-president Colin Grannell said: ‘We have taken the decision to cease our involvement now because we want to concentrate on maximising our long-term partnership with the Olympic and Paralympic movements, as well as our support for the FIFA World Cup.'
Grannell added that the company would focus in particular on achieving a cashless London Olympic Games in 2012.
