Supporting the ministry of bishops and promoting the greater good which the Church offers humankind.
About us
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is an assembly of the hierarchy of the United States and the U.S. Virgin Islands who jointly exercise certain pastoral functions on behalf of the Christian faithful of the United States. The purpose of the Conference is to promote the greater good which the Church offers humankind, especially through forms and programs of the apostolate fittingly adapted to the circumstances of time and place. The Gospel of Christ and the teachings of his Church guide the work of the USCCB. The work of the Conference is rooted in three general mission goals and organized into three key areas of responsibility. 1. To act collaboratively and consistently on vital issues confronting the Church and society 2. To foster communion with the Church in other nations, within the Church universal, under the leadership of its supreme pastor, the Roman Pontiff 3. To offer appropriate assistance to each bishop in fulfilling his particular ministry in the local Church

Father of all, Creator and ruler of the universe, You entrusted your world to us as a gift. Help us to care for it and all people, that we may live in right relationship-- with You, with ourselves, with one another, and with creation. Christ our Lord, both divine and human, You lived among us and died for our sins. Help us to imitate your love for the human family by recognizing that we are all connected— to our brothers and sisters around the world, to those in poverty impacted by environmental devastation, and to future generations. Holy Spirit, giver of wisdom and love, You breathe life in us and guide us. Help us to live according to your vision, stirring to action the hearts of all— individuals and families, communities of faith, and civil and political leaders. Triune God, help us to hear the cry of those in poverty, and the cry of the earth, so that we may together care for our common home. Amen.

Recently, members of the Episcopal Conferences of the United States, Latin America, and Canada met for their biennial gathering -- an example of synodal collaboration that spans 50 years. Attendees discussed shared concerns and approaches to pastoral ministry; and timely issues such as climate, migration, and how to grow the impact of the Synod. This gathering is a chance for prayer, fraternity, listening, and sharing, toward the goal of greater mutual understanding, collaboration, and affirmation of the work of the Conferences.
