✨ YPSat Shipment to Kourou, Centre Spatial Guyanais ✨ 🚀 The journey of YPSAT to Kourou has officially begun from ESA/ESTEC! 🌴🛰️ Join us as we count down to the thrilling launch while providing you with weekly updates. 🛸 YPSat has officially started its journey to Kourou. Soon, it will arrive in Evry, France with ARIANESPACE. Here it will board the plane to Kourou, together with other payloads. Within three to four weeks the YPSat is planned to arrive at the Centre Spatial Guyanais where the integration on top of the Ariane 6 can begin. To make its travel as smooth as possible, this week, the team was busy in packing the YPSat for maximum safety. 🎆 💥 The YPSat was securely packed with multiple layers of ESD-plastic to reduce the risk of contamination. Furthermore, the structure was mounted on a support structure and placed within the shipment container, with foam added around and on top of the structure to dampen any shocks. 🚀 This shipment marks a critical milestone, which was celebrated yesterday with a special dinner among the YPSat members and OSCAR-QUBE+. 🎉 We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to this success. Thank you to all our YPSat members, alumni, experts, and partners! 🙏 Stay connected with YPSAT and join us in the exhilarating countdown to launch! 🌌 ✨

About us
The European Space Agency (ESA) is Europe’s gateway to space. Its mission is to shape the development of Europe’s space capability and ensure that investment in space continues to deliver benefits to the citizens of Europe and the world. ESA is an international organisation with 22 Member States. By coordinating the financial and intellectual resources of its members, it can undertake programmes and activities far beyond the scope of any single European country. ESA's 22 Member States are Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Slovenia, Slovakia, Latvia and Lithuania are Associate Members. Canada takes part in some projects under a cooperation agreement. Five other EU states have Cooperation Agreements with ESA: Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Malta.

#PickyourPic 📸 🛰 The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) is a 2.4 m-diameter space telescope optimised to observe from the ultraviolet to the infrared, collaborated between ESA and NASA. Launched in 1990 and designed for refurbishment by astronauts, Hubble is one of the greatest scientific projects. Opening our eyes to the wonders of our ‘planetary’ backyard and beyond, it has revolutionised modern astronomy by being an efficient tool for making new discoveries and changing the way research is done. #FunFact It launched in 1990 but the main mirror had a serious flaw: the edge was too flat by a mere fiftieth of the width of a human hair, preventing sharp images. Scientists and engineers from NASA and ESA worked together and came up with a corrective optics package, fitted during the first Hubble Servicing Mission (SM1) in December 1993. SM1 was meticulously planned and brilliantly executed, and will go down in history as one of the highlights of human spaceflight. 👏 https://lnkd.in/ep3SvC5i ❤️ https://lnkd.in/ehTu6m-C 👍 https://lnkd.in/eBk85N5h 💡 https://lnkd.in/eGifrRgC

🛰️ Hera’s trajectory to Didymos includes interesting Mars swingby! The liftoff of ESA’s Hera mission for #PlanetaryDefence is only the start. The team at ESA’s European Space Operations Centre #ESOC is getting ready to control the Hera mission once it launches in October this year. The launch will be followed by a two-year cruise to the Didymos binary asteroid system. A sequence of deep space manoeuvres is required to get it there, including an exciting swingby of Mars in March 2025 to acquire extra velocity to aid the rendezvous with Didymos. Watch the entire journey 👉 https://lnkd.in/g84aV-Dy “It´s truly fortunate that Mars happens to be at the right location and at the right time to give Hera a hand. This enabled us to design a trajectory that uses the gravity of Mars to push Hera towards its rendezvous with Didymos, resulting in great fuel savings for the mission.” says Pablo Muñoz, #FlightDynamics engineer at ESOC. 📅 Next 7-10 May 2024, join us at ESA-ECMWF WORKSHOP: Machine Learning for Earth System Observation and Prediction! Machine/Deep Learning (ML/DL) techniques have revolutionized numerous fields and have proven to be particularly advantageous in various applications such as image recognition, traffic prediction, self-driving vehicles, and medical diagnosis. These techniques have garnered significant attention and adoption within the Earth System Observation and Prediction (ESOP) community due to their ability to enhance our understanding and prediction capabilities of the Earth's complex dynamics. In line with this, the workshop aims to delve into the progress and synergies between ML/DL and conventional tools in satellite observations, weather and climate models, and post-processed model outputs. 👉 https://ml4esop.esa.int/ European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts hashtag #AIforEOWS #AI4EO
