Family, friends and the local football world have all paid tribute to the popular youngster.

His devastated family said: “Our lives have changed forever and will never be the same without our precious boy.

"We will miss him every day for the rest of our lives.

“Thank you to everyone that’s payed tribute to Devin and those that have sent us condolence messages during this extremely difficult time.

“We would like to ask that our privacy is respected as we come to terms with the tragic loss of our young son.

“Devin will live in our hearts forever”.

The Hearts daft youngster’s fellow Jambos are planning to have a minute’s applause at their home match against Celtic next week in his honour.

A picture of Devin at Tynecastle has been shared online along with the request.

It said: “Friends of Devin are hoping to get a 13 minute applause around Tynecastle on Wednesday night. Share this Jambos.”

The schoolboy was a pupil at Bathgate Academy.

Head Teacher Eileen Paxton said: “Everyone within our school community is devastated at this news.

"Devin was a lovely pupil who will be missed by everyone who knew him and our thoughts are with his family and friends.

“Support is in place for our pupils and staff at this incredibly difficult time.”

Devin played football for his local side Bathgate Juniors.

The club said: “It is with great sadness and sorrow that we share the news of the passing of one of our players from Bathgate Juniors Under 14’s.

“Devin was a light in the team which will never go out. His personality like a magnet drawing people to him. Happy, cheeky but funny with it and always respectful.

“On the field he showed his passion and skill. He made the team a better place to be.

"He was a great team player and friend who will be greatly missed by his football family.

“Our thoughts are now with Devin’s family, friends and his team who will hold him in their hearts forever the only Number four.”

Devin’s family are being supported at their home.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “We were called to Bathgate at 2.34pm yesterday (19 January) following reports of a casualty.

“Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.’
