Top review from the United States

Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2012
Where the first volume of the Zend-Avesta dealt primarily with laws, this second volume largely consists of prayers or hymns to practically everything, as seen in the thirtieth "chapter" of the Farvardin Yast.

In regard to content, there is not much noteworthy here minus the following exceptions:

There is an interesting footnote on page 268 that suggests that the dervishes had their origins in the Athravans.
As in the previous volume, Zoroastrianism again shows its disapproval of abortion (pg. 281), among other things.
We see mention of the word, "Haoma", which by its description and spelling is clearly the Zoroastrian version of "Soma" in Hinduism.

But perhaps the most interesting part is Yast XXII, which deals with what becomes of one after death. First it goes into great detail about the fate of the faithful before giving the same treatment for the fate of the wicked. The parallels to Heaven and Hell are quite obvious.

In reading the Zend-Avesta, I find particularly interesting how the Zoroastrian religion shares traits of neighboring Judaism and Hinduism. But as a religion to seriously consider for practice, the fact that it is so derivative makes it easy to dismiss.
