Leaders are problem solvers by nature, so they naturally want to have an answer for everything. When a senior business leader doesn’t have the best answer or solution to an issue, it can be a very uncomfortable experience. Today’s best leaders embrace the notion that others sometimes have better answers than they do. Peers or employees may be able to help brainstorm effective solutions when a leader has gotten too deep into the weeds on something to maintain an objective perspective or is having issues coming up with original, innovative ideas.  Below, 15 members of Forbes Coaches Council share advice on how senior business leaders can intentionally work on getting more comfortable with not always having the answer.

Team-building activities, when done right, are a great way to boost employee morale and trust. At times, however, these activities can be worse than merely ineffectual; “team building” can turn into a complete disaster if leaders don’t know how to properly plan and implement such exercises. There are key components that must be present to ensure the success of any team-building activity. Ironically, some of the things leaders deliberately choose to incorporate end up doing the opposite of strengthening a team. Below, 14 members of Forbes Coaches Council discuss some unhelpful, if well-intended, elements that can destroy team-building activities and what leaders can do to avoid these issues.

While the online marketplace is booming and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, it’s still important for businesses and brands to create offline exposure. When so much effort and strategic planning goes into online marketing, it’s easy to overlook the offline market.  Community exposure and genuine connections can help a business or brand prove its authenticity, which is a major selling point in today’s marketplace. Here, 12 professionals from Forbes Coaches Council share the recommendations they’ve given their clients who want to create offline exposure for their business.

When clients hire a coach, they’re generally enthusiastic about receiving candid critique and expert guidance. However, when a coach is too blunt with feedback, it can make even a seasoned executive feel skittish.  It’s essential for coaches to understand how to offer gentle encouragement so that they don’t end up pushing clients away. Below, 14 members of Forbes Coaches Council discuss their strategies for doing just that.

While coaching clients often need reality checks, it’s natural for anyone to feel embarrassed and less open to hearing feedback if constructive criticism is delivered too harshly or bluntly. That’s one of many reasons why it’s important for coaches to become experts in diplomacy.  There are several ways to give someone a reality check without explicitly stating that this is what you’re doing. Below, 15 professionals from Forbes Coaches Council talk about the kinds of questions they ask their clients to help them see things from a different perspective—one that’s more objective and in line with reality—and find more clarity in situations that challenge them.

Working on a solo project has its benefits—namely, having control over every aspect of an initiative is sometimes easier than deciding how to delegate tasks to support your desired outcome. In group initiatives, it’s ultimately up to the leader to figure out what specific tasks need to be delegated and who should be assigned to handle which tasks. Whether you want to ask for volunteers, assign partners or decide in other ways, as a leader, you must be comfortable and adept at delegating certain tasks that are related to a collective project. Below, nine members of Forbes Coaches Council share the best ways for leaders to make these critical decisions.
