Foxtel: Summer highlights for kids

Kids get a mix of new shows, classic cartoons, and returning favourites on Foxtel this December and January.

2013-12-03_1248 Summer highlights on television are usually aimed at kids, but Foxtel has advised of some of its kid’s content screening  throughout December and January.

This includes a mix of new shows, classic cartoons, and returning favourites :

Channels for Kids and Tweens

Featuring inspiring stories, superstar talent and award-winning animated and live-action series and movies, Disney Channel is kid-driven entertainment that the whole family can enjoy. Disney Channel hit shows include Austin & Ally, Good Luck Charlie, Liv and Maddie, Shake It Up, Jessie and the award-winning Phineas and Ferb.

Nickelodeon (Nick) puts kids first in everything it does through surprising, playful entertainment experiences. Nick is the hottest entertainment destination for kids this summer. Remedying school holiday boredom, the channel will be serving up brand new laugh out loud episodes of their latest toon, Sanjay & Craig, searching for teams of best friends to be a part of the tenth season of Camp Orange (the slimiest outdoor reality series on the planet!) and bringing the wildly successful Rabbids video game to television, with the Australian series launch of Rabbids Invasion.

Cartoon Network animates kids’ lives through delivering the best comedy and adventure shows. Check out the hugely successful Ben 10 franchise, laugh your socks off in Regular Show and join in all the fun of the award-winning series Adventure Time and The Amazing World of Gumball. Boomerang is a dynamic and quirky place where young kids can be inspired, laugh and play with the whole family. From classic Looney Tunes and Scooby Doo capers to modern faves like Garfield, Powerpuff Girls and My Little Pony.

Channels for Pre-school Children

Disney Junior reflects the emotional connection generations of consumers have to Disney storytelling and Disney characters, both classic and contemporary. Friday January 17: When Sofia brags about being chosen to sing the Enchancian Anthem at the annual Harvest Festival, her amulet puts a curse on her which she must learn to undo. Classic Disney Princess Belle from “Beauty and the Beast” makes a special appearance to offer Sofia some words of advice – princess to princess.

Friday January 24: After finding a ship-in-a-bottle, Jake releases a magical pirate genie (voiced by Jerry O’Connell) who must find the Treasure Wishing Well in order to restore his powers.

Sofia the First: The Floating Palace Disney Junior

Sofia and her family take to the high seas for a royal vacation in the first-ever Sofia the First junior length special, Sofia the First: The Floating Palace. The undersea adventure, in which Sofia is magically transformed into a mermaid, features a special appearance by Princess Ariel from The Little Mermaid, voiced by Disney Legend Jodi Benson who reprises her iconic role from the animated film. The special also introduces a new character named Oona, a young mermaid voiced by Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men). Sofia the First: The Floating Palace takes Sofia and her family on an extraordinary journey to Merriway Cove, where Sofia meets a young mermaid named Oona. After helping Oona untangle her fin from a net, Sofia’s magical amulet transforms her into a mermaid too, allowing her to explore the underwater world with her new friend. During their adventure, Sofia learns that mermaids mistrust humans and are angry that her family’s floating palace is in their cove. When Oona is captured by a horrible sea monster, Sofia – with a little help from Princess Ariel – must find a way to save her and create harmony between their two worlds. Join Lloyd Warbey for the third series of Art Attack as he demonstrates a variety of practical, fun and creative makes using materials found in the home. This series takes the viewer on a journey through a land of kings and queens, sport, music and much more. Each episode provides two makes, an Art Attack Tip that teaches an artistic technique to enhance your creations, and a Big Art made by Alex Gandman using an assortment of materials close by, or coloured sand in the studio. There are also Quick Arts – a simple idea presented in three easy steps to develop your drawing skills. Plus, the palm with the charm, Vincent Van Coconut, is on hand in each episode to help Lloyd throughout the show and offer up some eco advice.

Sam Moran is back in a brand new full length episode of Play Along with Sam, titled Zoo’s Who! The Aria nominated singer and beloved preschool entertainer will visit the zoo as part of the animal themed episode. In his signature safari suit, Sam will sing new songs, as well as favourites from his first series and playfully encourage kids at home to help him find three lost sounds from his ‘SOUND JAR’. Based on the highly successful and educational series, Play Along with Sam, Moran will explore the ‘animal world’ through music and movement. The Play Along with Sam Zoo’s Who! episode includes games, riddles, dances and songs in an interactive and engaging format, specifically designed for pre-schoolers.

New to Nick Jr. this December, Percy’s Tiger Tales is a beautiful animated adventure comedy featuring Percy and his three friends, Sissabelle, Flap-Flap and Tattoo. The four great friends tumble and play through each other’s imaginary worlds, ‘Tower Power’, ‘Think Pink’, ‘Standby to Fly’ and ‘Ahoy me Hearties’. Percy wants to be brave and noble. The only problem is that Percy is afraid of quite a few things… spiders, heights, small spaces, the dark. He wants to overcome his fears. That’s why Percy’s alter ego is a knight. It embodies all of the things he would most like to be. When Percy is dressed up as a knight, he and his friends go on wonderful adventures together to solve or understand something new. It’s a fun ride, a rollercoaster, where things can go comically wrong providing many lively and funny moments for the viewer at home. In fact, the present is actually two puppets. Together, Bali and Lea put on a little puppet show to the delight of everyone present.

The Veggies are visiting a log cabin for Christmas, but it needs decorating. Mr Bloom gets help from some tiddlers to choose a Christmas tree and make some decorations for the cabin. Presented by 2011 Bafta nominee, Ben Faulks this programme teaches littlies how different plants and vegetables grow.
