SCOTT BROWN is happy to share a room with new glove rival Adam Collin but has warned he won’t be sharing the No.1 jersey at Pittodrie.

The Dons keeper bunked in with the recent arrival from Rotherham ahead of last weekend’s 3-2 win at Ross County.

Brown was handed a start following loan star Danny Ward’s return to Liverpool and repaid boss Derek McInnes with a superb performance in the Highlands.

The former Cheltenham shot-stopper rose to the challenge in Dingwall with a series of stunning stops to safeguard three vital points.

Brown welcomed the Collin competition and admitted the pair hit it off right away after a few days training and an overnight stay in the same hotel room.

But there will be no love lost when it comes to the fight to be the main man for the Dons.

Brown said: “I have done a couple of sessions with Adam. He has great experience and he has been great to work with.

“I actually roomed with him before the Ross County game so I got to know him a bit more.

“We got on great and I am sure we will work well together no matter who is playing.

“A club like Aberdeen always need two keepers who can step up at any time and that is what we have here.

“It was only me and David Craddock, who is only 17, and is obviously not ready.

“Danny Rogers has done well with Falkirk in the league below.

“But the step up from there is massive and the club want him to stay there.

“So they had to bring in another goalie and they have brought in Adam.

“But obviously I want to play – it’s the same as every position.

“Not everybody can play every week and I know if I don’t play well if selected next time then I won’t be in the team.

“So I have to keep working hard to try to stay in. Adam has not come up here not to play.

“He is a great keeper and a great lad so I have to keep working hard to try to stay in the team for as long as possible. It’s up to the manager.”

Brown admitted it was a thrill to be back between the sticks after sitting out all season.

The 30-year-old was first choice all last season after ousting Jamie Langfield but fell behind Ward after the Liverpool kid hit the ground running at Pittodrie.

Brown said: “It was great to play. It has been seven or eight months since the end of the season.

“Marsh has kept me right in training so thankfully I was ready to go.

“You are always disappointed not to be playing but as a keeper you need to wait for your chance.

“I’ve been playing in the Under-20s games but they are difficult to take anything from.

“You need to keep your head down, work hard to keep yourself right and be ready when the chance comes.

“If you are not ready then your chance won’t come again.

“I know if I don’t keep playing like I did then I will be out of the team again.”

Brown had no complaints at playing second fiddle to Ward.

Danny Ward was a big hit during his loan spell at Aberdeen

He rates the 22-year-old highly and tipped him to go down a storm back at Anfield.

He said: “Everyone thought Danny was going to be here for the season so it wasn’t something I was expecting any time soon.

“Danny has been absolutely fantastic. That’s why he has gone back to Liverpool and he will be pushing Simon Mignolet for the No.1 jersey.

“Whether it happened now or at the end of the season it was always going to happen. He is a fantastic keeper and a great lad.

“I spoke to him a few times last week and I am sure he’ll get his chance with Liverpool soon.”

Former loan star Ward is in line for his Liverpool debut in the FA Cup replay against Exeter at Anfield tonight.

He insisted his Aberdeen experience has prepared him for the big stage.

Ward said: “You don’t try to run before you can walk. It would be nice to try to get a game in any competition for this club.

“But I take it day by day, work hard and look to catch the eye.

“It was massive for me this year to go and get games.

“I’m just thankful that a club as big as Aberdeen gave me the opportunity to play and get games and exposure which has done me the world of good.”
