🌿 Breaking News from California's San Joaquin Valley! 🌿 Our latest study published by Dove Medical Press in the scientific and medical Journal of Asthma and Allergy, sheds light on a critical issue: the economic and health impacts of air pollution, the main driver of climate change, in one of the most polluted regions in the U.S., our San Joaquin Valley. Despite being known for its rich agricultural landscape, our findings reveal a hidden cost that affects all its residents. 🔍 Key Findings: $721.6 Million: The combined cost of healthcare, lost productivity, missed school and other societal impacts due to air pollution-related health issues. Significant Health Impact: Reductions in ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and fine particulate matter could prevent up to 21,786 emergency department visits and 19,328 hospitalizations for asthma and respiratory symptoms. Economic Savings: Just marginal reductions in air pollutants could save millions in healthcare costs, school absences and lost productivity, with nitrogen dioxide reductions alone potentially saving over $82 million in the warm season of the Valley. This study isn't just numbers, it's about real lives impacted by air quality every day. Cleaner air isn't just possible; it's necessary for the health and economic wellbeing of SJV residents 🌱 In collaboration with Health Economist Dr. Paul Brown and the foremost air pollution expert in the Valley Dr. Ricardo Cisneros #HealthEconomics #AirQuality #PublicHealth #SanJoaquinValley #EnvironmentalScience #HealthEquity #OpenAccess #AskAHealthEconomist #ClimateChange

Barriers Preventing Medical Trainees from Active Participation in Research Activities Early #eidmubarak in the form of a publication from our research group Download article ⬇ https://lnkd.in/dCtvh_in Authors Khalifa University: Dima Al-Absi, Mohammed Omar, Mecit Can Emre Simsekler 🤝 Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City - SSMC: Khadija Yousuf, Rahma Al Breiki, Khulood Al Jaberi Tahir Mehmood Sanjay Ayathan Deanne Kashiwagi and Siddiq Anwar Thank colleagues for this interdisciplinary, cross-institutional collaboration , only way to progress and mature #uaehealthcare We embarked upon this study to increase research output among our learners at SSMC. Historically folks from the region who wished to learn how to do research or pursue academic excellence would go abroad. But the stated vision and mission of the #UAE government is to create a knowledge-based economy and a #AI and #precisionmedicine powerhouse. UAE government is doing its part by investing monies at levels not seen since the post World War 2 USA government research investments by creating institutes like MBZUAI (Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence), New York University Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates University, Technology Innovation Institute ADIA Lab, etc to name a few The key to ultimate success is to create a pipeline of elite talent right here in UAE to fully exploit all these opportunities to create growth and value for this ecosystem and in the end the nation Once we got these preliminary results, esp the lack of awareness of #emergenttechnologies like #aininhealth, #blockchains, #bioinformatics we instituted a series of workshops & lectures to increase awareness among our learners, to connect them to the rich ecosystem that is developing outside the hospitals We published this in Omnia Health #medicaleducation ➡ https://lnkd.in/dYyJJjCC #Healthcare in UAE itself has been historically slightly insulated with this rapid transformation. But with the full-scale meltdown of NHS and the culture wars in #USA, I am seeing more and more elite folks in their prime age group coming to UAE due to its welcoming environment and great opportunities This puts additional pressure on our #learners to acquire skills that will allow them to compete with this elite talent which is flocking to UAE. So are we preparing our learners for #futureofwork and #futureofhealthcare ? Historically doctors had a recession-proof job, as long as you kept your nose clean & in the case of #nephrology- put 20-30 dialysis prescriptions a day you had a job till you retired or died. But most of what we do can be automated or done by someone else for less pay, when the #healthcaresystem matures, the question will be asked what value are you bringing to the institution Our study has much food for thought. Impact Factor: 3.3, CiteScore: 4.0, 0.682 Scimago Link: https://lnkd.in/d6z-7kqf Reviewer's Comments - "The identification and validation of 12 agile principles for breast cancer treatment represents a novel and valuable contribution that advances this field of research and has plausible real-world potential. The presented set of tailored agile principles for cancer care does appear to be original work. And the rigorous, structured methods used to develop and validate these principles lends them credibility. In terms of advancing cancer care, the discussion section notes meaningful ways these principles could enhance patient experiences, healthcare efficiency, responsiveness to innovations etc. if adopted into policies, processes and clinician mindsets. The data supporting current agile-aligned practices in areas like personalized medicine and rapid adjustments provides a plausible basis. And the honest categorization of some principles only partially meeting agility gives a realistic picture of cancer complexity barriers, rather than overstating current state. Overall both the agility principles and evaluation represent an impactful research advance."
