Today, we mark #WorldBookDay, a global celebration aimed at encouraging the enjoyment of books and reading. Observed annually on April 23rd, this event honors books as important cultural connectors that link our past and future and bridge the gap between generations and cultures worldwide. The day emphasizes the importance of education equality, aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education. In this #BooksInspired installment, check out our selected titles reflecting themes of schooling, children, and equal educational opportunities. This open access book ventures beyond traditional boundaries to explore the forefront of education, equity, and inclusion within the unique and challenging environments of the circumpolar North. Following up on its predecessor that mapped out policies of inclusion and equity, this new volume dives deeper into the educational landscape of the North, uncovering the intricate challenges and pioneering innovations designed to cater to diverse learners in some of the planet's most remote and dynamic regions. Structured around two pivotal themes – empowering teachers to embrace diversity and inclusion in their classrooms, and inspiring community-driven solutions to overcome the North's distinct structural and geographical educational hurdles – Palgrave Macmillan’s Education, Equity and Inclusion: Teaching and Learning for a Sustainable North is a beacon of insight and inspiration. Get the book: https://lnkd.in/g-JypXN2 Palgrave Macmillan's Inclusive Smart Museums explores the intersection of cultural heritage, neurodiversity, and smart museums, examining immersive techniques for creating engaging experiences for neurodiverse audiences. This Palgrave Macmillan title provides practical solutions and examples for heritage professionals and researchers, highlighting the importance of preserving and enhancing cultural heritage by incorporating immersive technologies and inclusive practices that cater to the needs of neurodiverse audiences. It showcases best practices and innovative techniques to effectively engage neurodivergent individuals, promoting greater inclusivity and accessibility in museums and heritage sites.  Learn more about the book: https://lnkd.in/eTC2yd8p Our Springer title Schools as Community Hubs brings together research on the planning, design, governance and management of schools as community hubs—places that support the development of better-connected, more highly integrated, and more resilient communities with education at the centre. It explores opportunities and difficulties associated with bringing schools and communities closer together, with a focus on the facilities needed to accommodate shared experiences that generate social capital and deliver reciprocal benefits. This book is open access, which means that you have free and unlimited access.  Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ga_ZNR_6 Continued in Comments.

In 2023, our Green Impact Network has had its most impactful year to date, now having member across 28 locations. They have created a network of passionate colleagues who contribute meaningfully to their local communities and play an instrumental role in helping reduce Springer Nature's environmental impact and raising awareness of sustainability-related challenges around the world. Throughout the year, the network members have run meetings, educational events and internal sustainability campaigns. They’ve promoted behavioural change and colleague engagement in environmental topics in our offices across the globe. Our colleagues have also extended their reach beyond our offices, engaging local organisations and charitable causes to have an impact in their local communities. In the past few months, this has included tree planting and litter picking, as well as inviting local organisations into the office to speak to colleagues. #EarthDay #BePartOfProgress
