Republican U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman, of Juneau, cited two recent studies from Northwestern University and Trinity College in Dublin.
The research linked low levels of Vitamin D to higher COVID-19 death rates.
"I think too many of the experts in Washington are just talking about a vaccine that may or may not happen someday, but we can save lives by taking more Vitamin D today,” Grothman told WISN 12 News.
People can easily get Vitamin D from the sun and from over-the-counter supplements but should consult their doctor first.
"We've been told our whole life that Vitamin D correlates with a strong immune system," Grothman said.
Northwestern University researchers also said more analysis is necessary.
Grothman hopes other lawmakers join him in exploring this potential protection against COVID-19.
