Altjira

Asteroid 148780, Altjira, a Kuiper Belt Object, was discovered on October 20, 2001 by the Deep Ecliptic Survey at Kitt Peak Observatory near Sells, Arizona. It has a period of just under 295 years (294 years, 363 days).

It was named for Altjira, the central god of the Dreamtime in the mythology of the Arrernte tribe of Australian Aboriginals in central Australia. Altjira created the earth and then withdrew to the sky, refusing to intervene in earthly affairs.

Astrologically, Altjira seems to indicate cold, indifferent, withdrawn, distant, non-involved, uncaring, focused on the big picture and unaware or indifferent to the suffering involved; oblivious to reality (Jonathan Dunn); creation, dreaming, envisioning, imagining, having to do with indigenous and prehistoric tribes and knowledge, making vision reality, operating on a non-material level, the supernatural, spirits or ghosts, psychic phenomena, deception, swindling, faking the spiritual in one form or another (Linda Berry).

Catherine Susan (Kitty) Genovese (born July 7, 1935 in New York) was a famous murder victim who was raped, stabbed and murdered outside her apartment in New York while dozens of people who heard her screams did nothing (because they didn't know what was going on, but it was taken as a manifestation of urban or New York apathy towards others). She had Altjira sextile Nessus and square Asbolus and Venus.

Writer Ambrose Bierce, who wrote frequently on the supernatural and the coldness of pitilessness of existence and disappeared in Mexico while covering the Mexican Revolution as a journalist, had Altjira square Mercury and Jupiter, trine Neptune, and opposite Pluto.

Blogger Cenk Uygur (born March 21, 1970 in Istanbul), who has declared that God doesn't care about people, but we do, so it's up to us to improve our own lives, has Altjira conjunct Eris, Venus and Thereus (cooperation), sextile Nessus, square Borasisi (uncaring, having to find our own warmth) and trine Makemake.

Psychologist Carl Jung, who worked extensively with dreams and mythology, had Altjira trine the Sun and Sedna, quincunx Neptune and opposite Deucalion (as Linda Berry has pointed out).

Nidal Malik Hasan (born September 8, 1970 in Arlington, Virginia), an Army psychiatrist of Palestinian descent who went on a rampage at Fort Hood, killing 13 of his fellow soldiers, has Altjira semisextile 1996 TL66 and Garuda (crashing and burning), square Teharonhiawako (going over to the dark side) and Agamemnon (sudden and violent attacks), trine Cyllarus (becoming empowered to act) and Boreas (something cold), and quincunx the Sun.

George W. Bush, a notoriously disconnected and callous president, has Altjira in the eighth house of legacies, trine the Sun.

Dick Cheney, a leading advocate of the neocon vision of Bush's presidency who has shamelessly defended the use of torture and imprisonment without trial and the unnecessary war in Iraq, has Altjira in the seventh house of enemies, on the Descendant, opposite Juno (the powerless, anger at being slighted) and semisextile Eris (controversy).

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, had Altjira sextile Mars (defense, energy), square Vesta (dedication), and quincunx Chiron (a door-opener, ingenious).

Quebec separatist leader Lucien Bouchard, whose charismatic but so-far-unsuccessful advocacy of his cause has exposed the parochial, even racist nature of Quebec nationalism, has Altjira sextile the Sun and quincunx Pluto.

Kate Fox, a co-founder of Spiritualism with her sisters Margaret and Leah, who was repeatedly accused of fraud, had Altjira semisextile Saturn, trine Vesta (dedication), and opposite Pluto.

The glyph for Altjira is my own creation.
