Alpha, Alpha+: body relaxation, focus, feels good, quiets the mind, helps with pain, releases serotonin. This is the lightest meditation. You can do it any time of day. You can read and do things while in Alpha. Although I wouldn't do anything physical.
Theta, Theta+: gives you a power nap, helps bring ideas to mind, improves memory, useful in smoothing the effects of too much Delta. I wouldn't recommend doing it too close to bedtime, might keep you awake.
Delta, Delta+, Delta++: the powerhouse of meditation, this is the deepest mediation, increases DHEA, lowers cortisol, increases melatonin, increases HRV, most push to nervous system to clear out blockages (physical and emotional).
Gamma: the special one, it actually increases brain activity, stimulates the frontal temporal lobe executive function, languages, organization, broad focus, regulates emotions, speeds reaction time. Don't do this too close to bedtime, may keep you awake. You can do things while in Gamma, like read, play video games (not kidding your reaction time will improve)

Different levels allow for varying degrees of intensity for the selected brain state. For example, Alpha at Level 5 is the same brain state as Alpha at Level 1. But, Level 5 will push you into Alpha in a more intense way. It's very similar to weight training. You can do bench press to exercise your chest. But, doing bench press with an extra 30lbs will provide more intensity to exercising your chest. Thus, you want to increase Levels over time in order to get even "stronger" at Alpha, Theta, Delta and Gamma. For those that are curious as to how this happens,, I'll explain. Brain waves have both a frequency and an amplitude. The frequency is the brain state. If your brain produces waves at 10Hz, then your brain is said to be in the Alpha state. It can produce waves that are small or waves that are larger in amplitude. The larger the waves the more "power" these Alpha waves posess. Each increased Level produces waves of greater power by inducing larger amplitude. How is this done? Lowering the frequency of the tones in each ear induces larger producing Alpha waves. The higher levels require Headphones that can produce low frequency sounds. Therefore, use GOOD Headphones for levels 7 and up.
Program
Do a Delta session everyday for 35 minutes. You may want to start with 10 minutes for one week and then progress to 35 minutes. Of course, start at Level 1. After about 6 weeks, you can try Delta+ for 6 weeks. Then, Delta++ for another 6 weeks. At that point, you can go to Level 2 and repeat the same thing. In this type of program, once a week replace your Delta session with Theta instead. And, add an Alpha session anytime during the day to simply relax. Sometimes try a Gamma session to experience the effects of Gamma - try once a week. After a while, you'll know how each feel and can customize how you would like. But, the main thing in this program is the Delta session each day.
Other notes about meditation
Alpha sequences and Gamma sequences won't stimulate your emotional brain area. Thus, you can always do them and know that any emotional issues won't get surfaced. However, Theta and Delta sequences will from time to time surface emotional issues you may have. This is a GOOD thing although it may feel uncomfortable. The reason it's good is that over time you will release those issues. If it feels really uncomfortable, simply replace Delta with Theta or skip a day.
Some people will want to use MindGlow for stress relief and emotional relief. Others want the physical health benefits. Still others want productivity benefits. And then there are others that want to improve a specific skill. I'll discuss each of these briefly in this section.
When you think of the word meditation, most people would associate its benefits with being centered and calm. This is the most popular reason people try meditation - they would like some relief from the stresses of life. A deep meditation, using Theta or Delta sessions, produces this benefit. Over time your ability to handle stress will increase. In fact, you will feel less and less stressed. You'll discover that meditation increases your ability to stay in the present moment and simply notice what is going on. This ability enables you to be in the midst of stressful situations, yet be centered and at peace inside. Using Theta and Delta, past emotional issues will surface sometimes. Simply know that this is part of the process.
More and more, the research is showing that meditation has physical health benefits. From reduced cortisol, to increase in HRV, meditation can and will improve your health. To gain the most of these physical benefits, Delta sessions is key. Serious trainers and elite athletes know that recovery and rest is a key component to pushing past physical limits and improving overall health. Delta meditation does this in spades!
Productivity benefits is an interesting topic in relation to meditation. From goal visualization to ideas generation to being prepared for an important meeting or presentation, meditation can really help. It can also help increase your ability to understand more complex subjects. This is achieved with Theta and Gamma. Try a day where you start with a Theta session and then after an hour or so do a Gamma session - you'll feel mentally ready to achieve whether for a presentation or an interview. For new ideas for whatever your project, simply keep your project goal in mind before starting a Theta session and then simply go with the flow and see where your brain takes you.
