YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --
The Eastern Michigan University rowing team swept four races against the University of Dayton in the debut of EMU's new championship-level race course at Ford Lake Sunday, April 28.

All six of the Eagles' boats topped the Flyers in all four races, highlighted by the 1V8's 7:10.4 finish, as EMU also recognized its seniors following the conclusion of competition in the presence of family, friends, and fans at the Boathouse at Ford Lake.

Eastern has found success against Dayton in recent seasons as the last three times EMU has swept four races have come against the Flyers. EMU previously did so Oct. 28, 2023, and Apr. 11, 2021.

How It Happened
In the fours race, the Eagles started the day with a clean sweep, taking the top three spots as the 1V4 won in 8:08.1, followed by the EMU 2V4 in 8:15.1 and 3V4 in 8:28.7.

Eastern's 1V8 and 2V8 both won their respective races in similar times as the 1V8 finished in 7:10.4 and 2V8 crossed in 7:13.2.

EMU's 3V8 continued its run of success, topping the Flyers by 20 seconds with a 7:48.7 clip.

Post Race Quotes
On the races: "I think across all boats we had a really good race," said Head Coach Kemp Savage. "It was nice to break out the new course by sweeping all the races. Everyone performed very well - we still have some places we can sharpen but we have 25 practices left to find some speed we don't have yet."

On the seniors: "I can't speak any more highly of a class of seniors that I've had," added Savage. "It was a large class - they've all done so much for the team, and we've seen transformative change from when they came into what we are now with new equipment, the new erg room, and the new course. They all signed on without those things and believed in the vision that we had for the team and helped be a part of making that happen and I can't be any more thankful for this group."
