World Rowing President Jean-Christophe Rolland was in Ancient Olympia, Greece today for the Paris 2024 Olympic Flame Lighting Ceremony. Stefanos Ntouskos, Tokyo 2020 Olympic Champion in the Men’s Single Sculls, was the first torchbearer for the relay. The flame will now travel throughout Greece before arriving in France on 8 May. #WorldRowing #Paris2024

On 14 November 2023, World Rowing and the Japan Sport Council (JSC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, joining forces to cooperate on an international joint research project on Virtual Sports and Virtual Rowing. Part of the MoU between World Rowing and JSC includes exchange programs and visits by representatives of both organizations, as well as presenting case studies at international conferences. As one of the initiatives of the MoU, the World Rowing executive leadership, including President Rolland Jean-Christophe, Executive Director Vincent Gaillard and Chair of the Indoor Rowing Commission, Filip Ljubicic, visited Japan a few days ago and attended the inaugural Virtual Sports Forum at the Japan Sport Olympic Square in Tokyo. The World Rowing Sustainability staff attended the inspiring ASOIF Sustainability workshop last week in Lausanne, Switzerland. Over the course of two days, they had the opportunity to openly discuss challenges IFs have in terms of sustainability and benefit from great collaboration as participants shared their learnings. We thank ASOIF for the initiative and look forward to continuing the fruitful exchanges to further progress in this important topic.

The World Rowing Versa Challenge is returning for a second year at the 2024 World Rowing Indoor Championships, presented by Concept2, Inc.   Over two days, twelve men and twelve women will race in five completely different indoor rowing challenges. This is a far cry from your classic 2’000m race.   Versa athletes will have to race in formats that the might have never tested before, and they need to be prepared to take on any indoor rowing challenge. Only one man, and one woman, will be crowned the world’s best, indoor rower.
