  Reclamation man takes heroic action, prevents tragedy

  May 8, 2024 – On Aug. 22, 2022, David Arend was driving home from work. As he reached his exit, he noticed a distraught man standing on the edge of the overpass high above the busy highway. Arend says he felt compelled to pull over and go to him.
  
  “I wasn't sure what I was going to say, but I just felt like I was being driven to do this,” said Arend. “So, I pulled over, got out of my truck, walked through the traffic. I walk up to him, you know, I just started talking with him. I said, ‘what's going on?’ He just kept shaking his head and he kept saying, ‘I'm done’.” Read More →

  Biden-Harris Administration announces $21 million for environmental projects in five states

  May 3, 2024 – The Bureau of Reclamation today announced a $21 million investment from President Biden’s Investing in America agenda for endangered species recovery and conservation in the Colorado River Basin. Project funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will support the Upper Colorado River Endangered Fish Recovery Program, the San Juan River Basin Recovery Implementation Program and the Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program.   Reclamation again increases 2024 Central Valley Project water supply allocations

  April 24, 2024 – Today, the Bureau of Reclamation announced another increase in the Central Valley Project 2024 water supply allocation for south-of-Delta contractors and those in the Friant Division. While all north-of-Delta CVP contractors are currently at 100% of their supplies, south-of-Delta agricultural contractors are today being increased from 35% to 40%. Last week, on April 18, the Friant Division Class 1 allocation was increased from 95% to 100% and the Class 2 allocation increased from 0% to 5%. Read More →

  Biden-Harris Administration Announces New Interagency Effort to Support Tribal Water and Sanitation Infrastructure

  April 23, 2024 – The Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation and Indian Health Service (IHS) today announced a new Memorandum of Understanding to further develop safe drinking water and community sanitation infrastructure projects across Indian Country. Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Water and Science Michael Brain made the announcement at the White House’s first-ever Clean Water Summit, alongside Indian Health Service Deputy Director Benjamin Smith and Yakama Nation Chairman Gerald Lewis. Reclamation Commissioner Camille Calimlim Touton also spoke on a panel at the event to uplift Reclamation’s investments in climate and drought resilience across the West. Read More →

  Investing in America: Protecting the Colorado River

  Flowing across 1,500 miles, two countries, 30 Tribal Nations and seven states, the Colorado River is more than a river—it’s the lifeblood of the West. Vital for supporting agricultural communities, businesses and cities, it also provides carbon-free, renewable hydropower while sustaining plant and animal life at every bend in the river. Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Camille Calimlim Touton shares how we’re deploying $2.9 billion (to date) from the President’s #BipartisanInfrastructureLaw and #InflationReductionAct to fund 400 projects that will help conserve water, including the Colorado River Basin. We’re using this funding to evaluate projects that will build long-term system efficiency – like lining canals, restoring aquatic ecosystems, and increasing water efficiency.
