Evidence-based PACT for neurodiverse and autistic children

PACT is an international leading early intervention for neurodiversity and autism. In the only evidence of its kind, the Lancet publication (add link or reference to bullet point in Commissioners section below) shows that early PACT intervention results in improved child development, sustained six years after the end of therapy into middle childhood.

PACT understands, nurtures and responds positively to the development and communication needs of neurodiverse and autistic children, with outcomes influenced by the quality of communication. PACT therapists work with parents or caregivers rather than directly with the child, using video observation and feedback methods that complement the child's individuality and neurodiversity.

Professionals training in PACT will join an international community committed to evidence-based practice and a developmental approach to supporting children and their families. PACT parents and caregivers can also join a friendly PACT community to share their experiences and gain support.

PACT neurodiversity and autism

PACT is focused on adapting the environment to meet the child's developmental needs. PACT supports neurodiverse-accepting interaction and relationships by helping autistic children communicate, be accepted, understood, and celebrated for who they are and advocate for themselves. We are committed to partnering with autistic people and parents to ensure that PACT and its practise remain neurodiversity-affirming and effective.

PACT harmonises with my approach to communication intervention, supporting parent/ carer skills in seeing imperceptible moments of interaction and communication. PACT fulfils the need to support and extend parent/carer existing skills and equip them with the confidence and self-efficacy they need in becoming a future advocate for their child’s differences.

It was a complete revelation to me, watching the video which illuminated moments of interaction with my child that I had previously missed. I now know when and how to respond in a way that harmonises with him. PACT strikes a chord with my understanding and sense of him. Talking through what I see on the video really helps me gain new insights, a true understanding so we can be on the same page and communicate better together.

I think PACT is now a way of life for us so I don’t realise that I’m doing it! But when I reflect, I’m doing it all the time. His TAs have been commenting on how much he is coming on with his language and communication skills. His teacher has commented that he is now talking to everyone in the class and unfamiliar adults.

This is a great course! The course is very interactive and has an effective mixture of presentations, video examples, role play, and group discussions. It has really helped develop my understanding of PACT and how to deliver it in practice. I'm really excited to start using the skills I've learned.

Professional UK

PACT training is an exceptional course for professional development but also inspiring and enlightening when it comes to gaining further insight in autism. Level 1 training was comprehensive, cost and time effective and provided the necessary knowledge in order to become familiar with the PACT ethos and subsequently attend Level 2.
The 2-day online training (Level 2) however, was outstanding. The relatively small sized group gave us the opportunity to express our own ideas, ask questions but also practice well enough on every section of the course. Our trainers managed to cover all our needs in a supportive, insightful and interactive way that made the whole process seem like a friendly meeting amongst professionals.
I would highly recommend PACT both to professionals but also parents who wish to learn ways to connect with their children and support their development.

  • Thank you, I found this course extremely useful and am looking forward to putting it into practice
  • It was a little intense and role-play heavy over the two days. However, I fully appreciate that method of practice is most salient to skills development. In addition, with time constraints, I wouldn't have been able to attend the longer course.
  • Hannah was very knowledgeable, approachable and supportive. It was also great to meet other SLTs.
  • Hannah is such a great teacher. She is sensitive and calm, and her explanations are fabulous.
  • The course gave me a great overview of how to work with PACT.

This week I received my PACT accreditation certificate and it has been the best gift from the Three Wise Men that I have ever had. I am happy and proud to have completed this process, which has been hard at many times, but extraordinarily rewarding.

Since my first contact with PACT I believed in this methodology and it has totally changed my intervention with the families of people with Autism, making me more sensitive and empathetic to their needs. I continue to carry out PACT with more families and have incorporated it into my work by making it available to all the families of the entity in which I work.

I reiterate my happiness for being part of this community and for having obtained the knowledge that accredits me. I want to continue learning and using this methodology to become a better PACT therapist every day.

I am really happy to have done this training, several families have been able to benefit from this therapy and the feedback is very positive.
