Education

The first step in becoming a CPA is to complete your higher education. Graduating from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university is strongly recommended.

Understanding Education

120

Initial Credit Hours

These hours are equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and are required by all states before you sit for the Uniform CPA Exam.

30

Additional Credit Hours

These hours are required by all boards of accountancy to be licensed as a CPA, and may be taken through a graduate accounting program (although not required).

State & Territory Requirements

Additional or unique education requirements for licensure are determined by each state or jurisdiction board of accountancy. Please review your state's requirements.

There’s no such thing as a bad question.

College is the perfect time to start preparing for your journey to CPA licensure. Don't miss out on the opportunity to take advantage of your accounting department's and state CPA society’s resources and networking opportunities. You also qualify for a number of financial support opportunities for dedicated students who are already committed to pursuing CPA licensure. And it's never too early to make a plan for the 30 additional credit hours, or determine where you’re going to sit for the exam.
