Calls for Coventry City owners Sisu to put the club up for sale are within touching distance of a major milestone.

More than 19,000 online signatures have been collected by the Telegraph’s petition demanding that CCFC’s London hedge fund owners put the club up for sale.

And over 800 have also been collected in print - putting the 20,000 mark within touching distance.

The number to have signed the petition is more than double the average home league attendance of the Sky Blues this season - which sits at 9,162 after ten fixtures at the Ricoh Arena.

Sisu took over as custodians of Coventry City in December 2007 and pledged to leave the community’s football club in a better position than they found it.

But since then the club has seemingly moved backwards by almost every conceivable measure.

It has suffered relegation to the third tier of English football and lost its right to long term tenancy at the Ricoh Arena while question marks hang over the future of the club’s Academy and Ryton training ground.

If you know anyone who hasn’t yet signed the petition, or you haven’t signed it yourself, sign and share it via this link.

Details of how the signatures will be delivered are set to be revealed by the Telegraph in the coming weeks.

The petition has already been a runaway success, with more than 7,500 people signing it online in less than 24 hours after it was launched.

It has received international attention and backing from a whole host of high profile journalists and pundits including Henry Winter and Stan Collymore. It has also been supported by Coventry City legends such as Dion Dublin and Gary McAllister.

The campaign has also bridged the generation gap with Life President and 1987 FA Cup winning manager John Sillett giving his vocal backing along with Ronnie Farmer who played for City in all for divisions during the 1950s and 1960s.

A flurry of protests have further embarrassed Sky Blues’ owners Sisu this season.

Ahead of the Ricoh Arena clash with Rochdale, more than 2,000 supporters marched in protest at the management of Coventry City since Sisu took over. Some supporters also chose to boycott the game.

One week earlier, a joint protest with Charlton Athletic supporters saw thousands of plastic pigs thrown onto the pitch, delaying kick-off by almost ten minutes.

A Halloween-themed protest saw thousands of signs featuring Sisu chief executive Joy Seppala in a witch’s hat produced and held up during the clash with Chesterfield.

Before the match with MK Dons on Saturday, a mock funeral was held outside the Ricoh Arena to mark the ‘death’ of CCFC.

More recently, one protest group has called on supporters to boycott season tickets next season.

A whole host of further supporter-led protests are in the pipeline as the pressure on Sisu to put the club up for sale continues to mount.
