Inbetweeners star Simon Bird will appear in new Channel 4 comedy Friday Night Dinner.

The Guardian reports that Green Wing's Tamsin Greig and Pulling actor Paul Ritter have also been cast in the show, which follows two brothers who visit their parents every Friday for a traditional meal.

The single-camera comedy has been written by Robert Popper, who worked on Peep Show and Look Around You.

He explained: "I want the show to capture the way we all revert to being kids again when we go round to our parents'. But it's also pretty autobiographical... it features a dad who drinks ketchup straight from the bottle, just like mine."

Meanwhile, Channel 4 comedy and entertainment commissioning editor Darren Smith said: "Friday Night Dinner is a brilliantly funny, fresh and well-observed take on family life with something of a dream cast - an irresistible commission from Robert's pilot."

Friday Night Dinner was originally commissioned as a pilot for E4 but was never shown. The first episode will now appear as part of a full series on Channel 4.
