It was in July 1999 when a group of seventeen young teenagers came together at the request of one late Father Andrew Cole to form Young Stars FC. The members of the team at the time consisted of the lads living in the area who went to the evening bible classes. Although the formation of the team was for the mutual understanding and interactions of everyone in the bible classes and, of course, for the persuading of every one to come, the players soon realized among themselves that there was some thing more than just coming together to learn, play and have fun and that’s how Sanchaba United came about.

Before being renamed Sanchaba United, the team joined a tournament under the Young Stars FC name and, to everyone’s great delight, ended up winning the trophy. That was when Fr. Cole decided to take the team further by inviting every lad with football skills in the whole of the down-town area to join, regardless of the different religions. After this was achieved, he then decided that as the team consisted of lads from all over the down-town district, it would be better if the team adopted the name Sanchaba United meaning “Down-town” in the local Mandinka language. Again after bringing together all the youngsters and having formed a solid team that was difficult to beat at the time, slowly the young club started winning the hearts of all the local people and soon afterwards, crowds were following the team everywhere it played. Gradually all the locals starting putting hands together in either offering help through donations or just simply cancelling all their plans on our match days just to cheer the team on. This was how an area team called Young Stars FC was transformed into a community one by the name of Sanchaba United.
Then an English visitor named Walter appeared on the scene and took the team to his heart. He made an impassioned plea for the club to re-name itself again, this time after his own local side back in England … SUTTON UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB.
