Associated Press Manager of the Year Award

The Associated Press Manager of the Year Award was first given in 1959 and is given to the Major League manager who takes the talent given to him by the team owner and accomplishes more than expected.

Past winners include World Series winners and managers who have taken teams from the cellar and put them in the chase for October. Listed below in chronological order are the past winners of the AP Manager of the Year Award.

Did you know that the winner of this award is selected by a nationwide panel of Associated Press baseball writers and radio men?

In 1984 the Associated Press went to a single winner system making the Associated Press Manager of the Year Award the highest honor a manager can receive.

Frequent winners of the AP Manager of the Year are Billy Martin and Walt Alston with four followed by Tommy Lasorda and Tony La Russa with three each.
