Reformed Sky Blue Trust wants 'fans to buy stake in Coventry City'

A NEWLY-reformed Coventry City supporters’ group is appealing for help to allow supporters to buy a stake in their club.

The Sky Blue Trust was relaunched last week and a temporary board was formed during a meeting at The Squirrel pub, in Greyfriars Lane, in the city centre.

The trust has been inactive for a number of years but those behind it hope it can now become the voice of the fans amid fears the club could go into administration.

City’s hedge-fund owner Sisu has already stated its intention to look at fans part-owning the club but is currently locked in negotiations over the Ricoh Arena.

The Telegraph reported on Saturday a bid to buy the half of the stadium owned by the Alan Edwards Higgs Charity had been rejected – prompting renewed concerns about administration or liquidation.

A scheme is being considered that could see the trust buy a stake in Coventry City should the worst happen – or even buy the club outright.

This would involve thousands of fans making a pledge of around £1,000 each to purchase a stake in their club.

A similar scheme is currently being introduced at Championship club Blackburn Rovers.

Jan Mokrzycki was co-opted to the position of trust spokesman at the meeting of around 50 fans last Wednesday.

“Now we just want to make sure we are ready if the club was to go into administration,” he said.

“At Blackburn, the fans themselves are actually putting a bid together for the club. If you get 10,000 fans each pledging to buy a £1,000 stake in the club – that’s £10million.”
