Who visits Vasa?

In 2013 the Vasa Museum had over one million visitors.

Up until now over 21 million persons have beheld the ship at the current museum.

The Vasa Museum is the most visited Scandinavian museum, and competes with world-famous museums such as Louisiana outside Copenhagen.

Who visits the museum? We hope to reach everyone and believe that we succeed in this mission. A survey from 2009 shows that we have a wide audience. Our average visitor is 41 years of age. The distribution between genders is equal.

Visitors from all corners of the globe make their way here. The largest share are from Sweden, although Swedes are still in the minority. 20 per cent of our visitors live in Sweden, 80 per cent come from abroad.

Both Germany and the USA rank second in terms of the share of visitors. 13 per cent of our visitors are from Germany. 13 per cent of our visitors are from the USA.A rapidly growing group is from Russia. The share of visitors from Russia increased from 3 per cent to 7.5 per cent in merely a year. Thus more than double.

We are also popular among the Spanish visitors. 6 per cent of the participants in the survey were from Spain.

We want visitors from all countries to feel welcome and strive to be a host of international calibre. The Vasa Museum is for everyone.

The statistics on the visits are based on surveys conducted during visits in 2009. Every 70th visitor answered questions during a five day period. There was a total of 514 respondents. The drop-out rate varies between the questions, from 1 to 13 per cent.
